When District 7020 Governor (DG) Louis Wever and his spouse First Lady Amanda who are from St. Maarten visited The Bahamas, in February 2022, Abaco was on their schedule. They were hosted to a tour and lunch at the Abaco Neem Farm and to conclude some delayed Rotary business.

DG and the First Lady formally installed a sign to mark the celebration of a gift, made possible by Rotary Bahamas Disaster Relief two years ago; the pandemic had prevented the formal installation....

For some, the road to recovery a year after Hurricane Dorian has been a hard fought one, wrought with tears, heartache, mixed emotions and bitter-sweet memories. For five blistering hours, Daphne de Gregory held her own against a raging hurricane, using her body like a concrete block to keep a dormer door shut while her husband, Nick Miaoulis, did the same with the adjoining door. All that stood between them and the howling 220 mile an hour winds of Hurricane Dorian was a sheet of glass. Together, they prayed, minute after minute, hour after hour. When one was nearly worn out and on the verge of collapse, the other prayed louder, offering up encouragement.

Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis attended a press briefing for residents of Abaco today and checked in on the progress of the island’s preparations for Hurricane Dorian, an extremely dangerous and powerful Category 4 storm approaching the Northwest Bahamas.

The visit was part of The Prime Minister’s final appeal for residents of the northern cays and the northern mainland to seek safe harbour in south Abaco.

Hurricane Dorian is a major threat to portions of the northwest Bahamas, particularly Abaco and Grand Bahama, which are under a Hurricane Warning. Residents of vulnerable areas of those islands are being urged to get out of harm’s way...

Reports are that on Thursday 6th June 2019  shortly after 6:00am, police were called to Forrest Drive, Abaco, where a black Mazda vehicle and a red and black Honda motorcycle were involved in a head on collision. The driver of the motorcycle, a 35 year old male of Abaco died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Mazda vehicle, both resident of Marsh Harbour, Abaco, were taken to the Marsh Harbour Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries...

The Bahamas Marine Mammal Research Organisation (BMMRO) responded to the report of a live stranded pilot whale on August 23rd on the beach just north of Crossing Rocks, Abaco. 

With the help of Crossing Rocks community members, BMMRO’s team was able to push the 11-foot young adult female whale back out to sea but had to hold it upright so that it did not drown. Two sharks patrolled nearby. During the rescue, BMMRO scientist Dr. Diane Claridge discovered a 3-foot long and 3-inch deep cut on the whale’s underside, deep enough to have cut into the muscle...

Reports are that on Friday 8th June 2018, shortly before 10:00am, an American male was arrested by police while at the Leonard .M. Thompson International Airport for possession of dangerous drugs. He was arraigned before the Marsh Harbor Stipendiary and Circuit Magistrate Ancella Evans, pleaded guilty to the charge, was fined $300 and deported back to the United States of America...
