Executive Director of the Grand Bahama Port Authority and Port Group Ltd., Rupert Hayward, spent his Saturday visiting the local farmers market in Freeport, held at the Aquaponics centre at the Garden of the Groves from9am to noon.

Hayward meet with organisers of the weekly event and toured the facilities with Local Organics Operator and Owner, Tiffany Dennison.  The local market team has expanded to weekly farmers event due to the increase of demand for fresh from the table products...

The Government of The Bahamas remains focused on Grand Bahama’s economic growth in spite of the Oban misstep, Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Hubert A. Minnis said Tuesday.

Wrapping up the debate on the Mid-Year Budget in the House of Assembly, Prime Minister Minnis acknowledged that “missteps” were made in the Oban Energies LLC Project.

The Bahamas National Trust condemns the killing of the sea turtle in Grand Bahama.  We commend the officers of the various agencies who coordinated the arrest of the three people responsible for the capture and brutal slaughter of a loggerhead turtle last week in Grand Bahama.

The 2009 ban on the harvest of sea turtles was enacted to protect these species, all of which are endangered. The effort led jointly by several NGOs with the support of the Bahamian public is part of a global conservation effort to protect these charismatic animals...

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for East Grand Bahama, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest said that while he’s aware of all the talk among the public about the $4 billion oil refinery project by Oban Energies, he urged Bahamians – particularly Grand Bahamians – to focus on the benefits such a project will bring to Grand Bahama.

A little over 6 months ago, executives of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA), unveiled its Capital Arena Initiative, a grant funding project, to assist aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners. This week, the Port will announce the 19 finalists set to compete in GBPA’s Capital Arena, for a chance to receive up to $15,000 to start or grow their business.

GBPA’s Capital Arena Initiative seeks to introduce a minimum of 4 new businesses into the local economy annually. According to Ian Rolle, GBPA President, the Port hopes to identify the best business ideas local entrepreneurs have to offer and assist with funding and support for these businesses to flourish...

Shortly after 8 am on December 20, officials at the Bahamas Telecommunications Company discovered what appeared to be evidence of copper theft at BTC substation on East Atlantic Drive. The actions of the culprits involved caused significant damage to the company’s fiber connectivity resulting in service outages for commercial and residential customers in the surrounding areas including the Rand Memorial Hospital, Grand Bahama Power, Paradise Games and up to 110 residential customers in nearby communities who will likely remain without fixed and broadband services for a minimum timeframe of three hours...

Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Miss Bahamas Teenager Organization in conjunction with The TOCU Agency will host a two-day boutique pageant for young ladies ages 13-18 on Friday December 1st, 6pm until 8pm and Saturday December 2nd, 9am until noon at Mind Body Fitness Centre in the Circle Mall to select a representative from Grand Bahama for the Miss Bahamas Teenager Pageant in New Providence. Interested young ladies will be interviewed one on one on the day of their choice and at the conclusion one person will be chosen as Miss Grand Bahama Teenager to compete in the national pageant on August 12th, 2018.

Applicants should wear light natural makeup, dress in smart casual attire and are required to bring a valid passport, recent report card, 30-60 second talent piece, swimsuit...
