Grand Bahama Technology Summit Brings Hope For the Future

Like many Bahamian events the 2017 Grand Bahama Technology Summit began
with a prayer and ended with a party. In between a plan started to
emerge for the revitalization of Grand Bahama as a hub for technology
and innovation. Presentations from leaders from business, government,
and academia, along with Bahamians working for high tech companies in
the US, were both pragmatic and inspirational.
It’s clear that
the path forward will not be easy. Speakers agreed on the need for
improving the ease with which foreign and local investors can start
businesses in the Bahamas (including streamlining the process for
obtaining licenses and work permits)...

vital utility infrastructure on the Island of Grand Bahama.

The Bahamas Telecommunications Company flocked to the Port Lucaya
Marketplace along with residents and businesses on Grand Bahama Island
to celebrate the return of a "Taste of Port Lucaya” last Friday, the
first event to take place since the passage of Hurricanes Irma and
Maria. BTC Brand Ambassadors, DMAC, and Stilleete put on stellar
performances for the event which was held under the auspices of Prime
Minister the Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis joining local residents who turned
out in droves for the event. BTC was also on hand to provide top up
specials and free WiFi for patrons in Count Basie Square, they will be
back out for the next event on Friday, October the 6th starting at 8 pm...

The public is advised that the Public Hospitals Authority has activated
its hurricane preparedness plan. This plan specifically speaks to the
physical securing of all PHA facilities inclusive of hospitals and
clinics, the pending closure of all out-patient and specialty clinics,
the suspension of elective surgeries, cessation of visiting hours, and
the management of emergency service operations during the storm.

Monday, 21st August, 2017 - The beautification and maintenance of the
City of Freeport is always of paramount importance to The Grand Bahama
Port Authority, Limited (“GBPA”).
Due to the significant damage
received from Hurricane Matthew and an increase in illegal dumping, GBPA
has had to organize several efforts to restore the island to its

those who contribute to the down trodden appearance of the city,
intentional or not, are forcing us to intensify our efforts to
counteract their actions. Since Hurricane Matthew we have been carrying

Freeport, Grand Bahama (July 26, 2017) – Vincent R. Burton, MBBS, FRCA,
has been appointed President of Okyanos Center for Regenerative
Medicine, which is licensed by the Bahamas’ National Stem Cell Ethics
Dr. Burton received his Bachelor of Medicine,
Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from the University of the West
Indies. He went on to complete residency training in the United Kingdom
at Queen’s Hospital of Staffordshire, Norfolk and Norwich University
Hospital as well as Cambridge University’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is
a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) and has served as
Chief Anesthesiologist at Okyanos since the center opened in 2014.

Shawna Sands, one of Logos Hope’s Bahamian volunteersogos Hope, the
world’s largest floating book fair, will soon bring its international
crew with their life-changing stories to Freeport, The Bahamas.
Sands from Nassau is one of Logos Hope’s 400 volunteers. She first came
to the ship in 2014 as part of a three-month Short Term Exposure
Programme, working in the bookfair. Having fallen in love with the
ship’s vision, Shawna re-joined in late 2015 for two years...

The spotlight on customer service remains a focal point of the Grand
Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) through the My Grand Bahama campaign, an
initiative of the Invest Grand Bahama Promotional Unit.
Grand Bahama campaign is designed to address ways to improve customer
service on the island of Grand Bahama. The initiative has received a
positive response from employees and employers, including government
entities. Senior Manager of Business Development for GBPA and Invest

Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, is coming in July!
Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, will soon visit Freeport, The Bahamas for the first time!
Logos Hope last visited Nassau in 2010, but this will be her first-ever stop in Freeport.
Logos II, sister ship of Logos Hope, visited Freeport in 2006 and 2008.
The ship will be open in Freeport from July 28th to August 6th...
