Remembrance Day 2009 at the Grand Bahama Labyrinth - Nov 12, 2009 - 4:33:57 PM
GBLabRemembranceANIM.gif
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas - Remembrance Day on November 11th was serenely observed at the Garden of the Groves in the beautiful, sacred setting of the Labyrinth, where all the benches were occupied by locals and visitors from around the World.  Poppies were available for everyone.

The sun shone from an exquisitely blue sky and many of our feathered friends sang to the accompaniment the quiet background music from selections of the Maastricht Salon Orchestra,  and Richard Shulman's 'Music to Walk the Labyrinth'.

Just before noon, Barbara Chester welcomed everyone and commented on the wonderful news of the joint ceremony, held that day in France commemorating the end of the Great War conflict..

(Review) Under the Harvest Moon, a Night to Remember - Oct 22, 2009 - 8:44:28 PM

HarvestANIM.gif
Grand Bahama Island - It happened and it was great!  'Under the Harvest Moon' originally planned for Saturday 3rd October, but moved by heavy rains to Sunday 17th, was a beautiful production from the incredibly talented duo: Ivy Elden and Gloria McGlone.  These two inspirational thespians, once again drew on our amazingly talented community who gave of their very best and gave us the very best in song, dance and true entertainment at our Labyrinth.

The show opened with a Poem, spoken in gentle tones by Ivy Elden, and ended with the lovely Susan Jensen Sweeting encouraging the audience to join her on the Labyrinth for a 'Moon Dance'  which she sang in her crystal clear voice .

The circular Labyrinth stage was, for the first time, a spectacular dance floor, all lit

Coming Full Circle with Grace in The Bahamas - Aug 25, 2009 - 10:22:11 PM

photo_2__1.jpg
I hoped that one day I might get the opportunity to meet Barbara Chester since only a small bit of ocean separates our two homes. Her passionate work had inspired me when I interviewed her for my article “The Grand Bahama Labyrinth” (The Spirit of Veriditas, Voices From the Labyrinth - Winter 2009, page 6).

Yet no one could have been more amazed by the Providence surrounding our meeting than me. Not until I noticed the small brown sign from my taxi’s window pointing toward “The Garden of the Groves” did I realize that our last minute family vacation had brought me full circle to a moment of Grace.

We had just two days before we needed to be back on the boat headed home to Florida. Barbara and I had only communicated a couple of times via email months before...

The Labyrinth meets the Saxophone - Apr 26, 2009 - 1:21:49 PM
SAXIMG_9546sm.jpg
Grand Bahama Labyrinth - A cocktail hour of Easy Listening Sax with Ric (Riccardo Major) was held on Saturday 21st March.

Despite the very heavy afternoon rains, Riccardo Major generously come to play for the Labyrinth and Saxophone devotees who had successfully gambled on the weather.  We enjoyed some really lovely music during an evening which actually brightened as the sounds of his 'gentle jazz' and 'lilting melodies' filled the air.

Riccardo musically reminded us that the saxophone is a reed instrument which sounds quite magical in the tranquil garden setting of the Labyrinth. He has promised to return later in the Year and already has a fan-club waiting to know the date!

Gathering of gratitude for Pastor Andreas Thode - Apr 4, 2009 - 2:07:36 PM

Thode_JH___B_under_Labyrinth_ArchSM.jpg
Grand Bahama Labyrinth - On Saturday, 28th March, in brilliant sunshine, there was a very special Celebration Walk and Blessing of the Labyrinth with Pastor Andreas Thode and his wife Nancy. It was Pr. Thode who first introduced 'The Labyrinth as a Sacred Path' in a sermon preached at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in February of 2007.  Shortly after this, he brought over from Florida on the Discovery a canvas Labyrinth which was  walked by the public in the garden of O.S.Church during the weekend of 16 - 18 March 2007. This marked the begging of exhaustive studies carried out by the Sponsor of the G.B.Labyrinth, Barbara Chester.

Pr. Thode had formerly been a regular visiting Preacher at O.S.Church; he was delighted to embrace many old friends who...

You would be seeing the newest edition to the Garden, a Pedicab. What's a Pedi Cab? Well, it looks like a large tricycle that can carry up to three passengers.

Cindy Wilson, a native of Grand Bahama and Jerry Hill were enjoying another one of those popular musical events at the Labyrinth at the Garden of the Groves. It had been a moving concert given by very talented local performers who had donated their talents in aid of the Humane Society of Grand Bahama. After the performance Cindy and Jerry were walking to the open-air restaurant at the Garden. They noticed several elderly ladies sitting on one of the many park benches. As it turned out they had difficulty walking the paths and thus could not enjoy the full beauty of the Garden...

One of the finest places in The Bahamas to commune with nature, the Garden of the Groves, now also houses a beautiful recreation of an ancient sacred path — The Grand Bahama Labyrinth — where visitors of all faiths can walk and reflect on healing, peace, meditation, prayer, our connection to the Divine, and our connection to one another.

This historical monument was founded and created in 2008 by Barbara Chester and the Community of Grand Bahama Island, with the invaluable help and creative guidance of Robert Ferre & Judy Hopen of Labyrinth Enterprises, Limited.

The GB Labyrinth set a perfect stage for the “Circle of Life” fundraiser - Jan 14, 2009 - 12:28:58 PM

gotg-humane-society-ANIMsm.gif
Under the watchful eye of a brilliant moon, the Grand Bahama Labyrinth at the Garden of the Groves was the stage for the dancers and singers performing under the canopy of the night sky on Saturday, January 10th 2009.  The Eldon-McGlone production called “Circle of Life”, in support of the Grand Bahama Humane Society, dazzled a large crowd of approximately 200 people. Viewers circled the Labyrinth either in lawn chairs, on blankets or even stood to watch a show that is a first for Grand Bahama, and most definitely a first of many performances to come at the Grand Bahama Labyrinth.

The night was a fascinating mix of ancient and modern rhythms and movement, passionate singing, and heartwarming images of animals through the modern technology of the interactive screen display...
