The Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) has reported that the Turks & Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) has seen significant progress in its recovery efforts around the islands. 

Dr. Virginia I. Clerveaux, Director, DDME reported “With a continued increase in manpower and equipment, the recovery process is expected to be completed in approximately one week.  All major government roads in Provo are cleared and most in North and Middle Caicos, with the exception of the Kew settlement...” 

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands, Monday, August 26th, 2014 – Flight operations at Providenciales Airport resume normal operations following the passage of tropical storm Cristobal. The storm’s passage though the Turks and Caicos Islands left a trail of cancelled flights due to its impact on the islands.

Flight operations at Providenciales International Airport were suspended since Sunday due to heavy rain, strong winds, low visibility and cloud ceiling. These prevented safe operations into the country’s main port of entry.

TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS -

One emergency meeting has already been held in Grand Turk this morning, and the country's Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies has determined that two shelters will be opened, that more manpower is required and an immediate assessment of the damages in hardest hit North Caicos and Providenciales are a must.

As part of ongoing efforts to empower the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), the Department of Social Development and Gender Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Home Affairs, is reviving the TCI Chapter of 100 Hundred Black Men.

Public meetings and other activities have been planned in Grand Turk and Providenciales (see schedule below) and the Department urges existing members and other interested individuals to attend the meetings and get involved in the activities.

TURKS & CAICOS - The Department of Economic Planning & Statistics, Ministry of Finance, Trade and Industry has published the 2013 External Merchandise Trade Figures. A copy is attached for your convenience.  

The figures indicate that despite the rather sluggish growth in 2012/13,  revenue from customs duties still accounted for more than a quarter of public sector recurrent revenue and continues to be the major recurrent revenue earner for the Turks and Caicos Islands. However, revenue from merchandise exports was $4,675 in 2012/13, when compared to $45,795 in 2011/12; which shows a decline of 97.6% in the revenue generated from exports.
