Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce to Hold Elections on Wednesday - Oct 29, 2013 - 4:11:40 PM

GB, Bahamas – This Wednesday the 30th of October, the Grand Bahama
Chamber of Commerce will vote for its new Board of Directors for the 2013/14
year. It’s been a busy year for the
Chamber as they have had many prominent speakers on a variety of subjects
including VAT, the viability of the Hawksbill Creek Agreement, review of
current government policies and a visit from Former
Prime Minister of Barbados Owen Arthur.
Current President, Barry Malcolm, is running unopposed, as
will returning Treasurer, Tish Simmons and former Chamber member Carmel
Churchill who will run for Secretary. 2nd
Vice President will be contested by newcomer Billie
Bowe, Benchmark Consulting, and closing out the executive of the board will be long
standing chamber member, Leigh
Termath, vying for 1st Vice President against well known businessman

meet with Mr. John Rolle, Financial Secretary and Members of the Value
Added Tax Implementation Team last night at an informal meeting held at
the Pelican Bay, Canal House.

Licensees ready to petition government on new Customs laws after GB Chamber Town Meeting - Aug 15, 2013 - 10:15:33 AM
Freeport, GB, Bahamas – There was standing
room only at the Town Hall Meeting held by the Grand Bahama Chamber of
Commerce (GBCC) in Freeport last night to discuss new Customs
regulations, VAT and the 2015 Hawksbill Creek Land Act.
President
of the GBCC, Barry Malcolm, opened the meeting with an overview of
recent events in Grand Bahama since the July 1st implementation of the
new Customs regulations. “The Chamber and I personally have been
inundated with calls concerning these changes,” said Mr. Malcolm. “We
immediately initiated contact with the Government and the Grand Bahama
Port Authority to express our concerns. In addition we, along with
larger stakeholders, met with a legal team to discuss our rights under
the Hawksbill Creek Agreement.”...

members of the business community came
out to Senor Frog’s for the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce’s month
Mix n Mingle last Thursday.
Each month, the Chamber chooses a fun
spot for managers, owners and staff of local companies to network. This
popular event offers several opportunities for the attendees. Firstly,
they get to meet in a casual atmosphere and talk business. Repeat
attendance at these events lets managers, who would not normally be able
to get out to make these contacts, get to know other in the community.
It is often said that people like to do business with other people that
they know. So the Chamber’s events enable this.
Secondly, it gives
local restaurants and other venue a chance to highlight their services
in a way they may not normally be able to do.

February 16th the local business community of Grand Bahama came out to
induct its new Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 2012/13. Held
in the Delphine’s Lounge of the Canal House at Pelican Bay Hotel, 13
directors were sworn in at a gala cocktail party that was heralded as a
‘catalyst’ to get the island back on track.

Recently, the board of directors agreed to move the yearly annual
general meeting (AGM) and election of officers and directors to October
31, 2012 instead of the historical Thanksgiving weekend. This decision
was made in an effort to align the new administrative board more closely

will remember that in previous years, the AGM was held on the last week
in November of each year notwithstanding the fact that, the Chamber’s

On Wednesday, May
16, the Embassy’s Political/Economic and Commercial Chief Alex Sokoloff
and the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce Chairman Chester Cooper held a
press conference to announce two “International Trade and Financing
Seminars” to be held in Nassau and in Freeport May 22-24. The events
are co-sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce
