Water and Sewerage Officials inspect Tarpum Bay Water Plant - Jan 2, 2019 - 6:03:09 PM

Executive Chairman of the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC), Adrian Gibson along with other officials inspected the water plant in Tarpum Bay during a recent stopover visit to the island.

The plant, which services the communities of Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound, produces approximately 460,000 gallons of water per day and has a storage capacity of 500,000 gallons...

17th Annual Bul Reg Regatta for Class C Boats was held over the weekend in George Town, Exuma. The Cameron Williams Cup Race was the only race held during day two (held in honour of the late Jr. Skipper). 

Winning the cup race was Bul Reg.   Golden Girl came 2nd;  and Bye Gully  came 3rd.

On Sunday, December 30, 2018 Saint Lucia welcomed the inaugural call of the Zuiderdam at Port Castries. The Zuiderdam is the first of the Holland America Line Vista-class ships which started sailing some seventeen years ago.

A total of 124 Haitian migrants were apprehended early Sunday morning by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force after they were discovered in Bahamian waters.

Sometime around 3:00 am, Patrol Craft P-125 coxswained by Petty Officer Patrick Donald intercepted a 40 – ft. sail sloop approximately 8 miles south of New Providence. HMBS Rolly Gray, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Stephen Rolle also assisted with the apprehension...

NEMA Facilitates Training on Japanese Grant Aid Disaster Management Equipment - Dec 28, 2018 - 7:32:29 PM

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is pleased to receive the remainder of equipment which is part of the $1.8 million Japanese Grant Aid project to The Bahamas in support of the country’s disaster management programme.  The equipment includes four balloon lights, eight water pumps, 40 VHF base radio stations, and 200 hand-held radios.

Some 25 staff from NEMA, personnel of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Ministry of Works underwent training, December 17-20, in basic operation and maintenance of the equipment.

Bahamasair is advising the public that due to earlier weather related challenges today at the Lynden Pindling International Airport, Air Traffic Control (ATC) held a number of flights on the ground.  As a result of these Air Traffic Control related challenges a number of our flights are now carrying significant delays, as well as our flight 320 which was returned to Freeport after holding in the air for 35 minutes.  Other airlines, as well as our remaining schedule have been impacted by these ATC related delays by as much as 2 hours.  Furthermore, we regrettably advise the travelling public that that some of our outbound US flights may not be able to clear Customs in Nassau and may have to be post-cleared in the United States...

The holidays in North Eleuthera and Marsh Harbour, Abaco got a lot busier after American Airlines brought in two new flights from Charlotte, North Carolina.

The flights began on December 22 and will continue to those locations every Saturday.

Passengers will fly to North Eleuthera Airport on a 75-seat Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet, while service to Marsh Harbour Airport will operate on an Embraer E175 that carries 78 passengers...

Officials of the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) inspected the water plant at the site of the former US Navy Experimental Facility in Eleuthera, Friday, December 21, 2018.

The plant supplies water for the settlements of Gregory Town, Hatchet Bay, James Cistern, Governor’s Harbour, Palmetto Point and Windermere Island. The facility holds four water tanks. Two are currently in operation. The purpose of the visit was to ensure that the plant is operating at its maximum capacity...
