Nassau, Bahamas - Recently on May 26, 2011, the OYP – Organization of Young Professionals, a division of the BCCEC, was launched to approximately 150 young professionals and other guests at the corporate office of Bahamas First and NUA Insurance, two of the sponsors for the launch event.

“The idea of an Organization of Young Professionals, supported by the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) is a new concept,” said chairman of the OYP, Valentino Munroe. “Some of us, for some time, have thought that The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce has not always kept pace with the changing business community in The Bahamas..."

Nassau, Bahamas -- Earlier this year, two advocacy organizations, the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and the Bahamas Employers Confederation (BECon) came together to create the new Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC). 

Both organizations had a long, rich history.  “We shared similar principles and we had collaborated over the years on many different initiatives,” said Khaalis Rolle, the chairman of the BCCEC. Some of those projects included working together on Education Reform, the Universal Health Care Initiative as well as the establishment of the Chamber Institute...

Nassau, Bahamas – On September 6, 2010, relations between The Bahamas and China were further solidified with the signing of a Trade Cooperative Agreement with the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce (BCOC) and the China Foreign Trade Centre (CFTC).  As outlined in the Agreement, “The China Foreign Trade Centre and the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce agreed to jointly take effective actions to strengthen cooperation between Chinese and Bahamian business institutions, with public promotion, mutual visits, trade fair and exposition, business travel and consultancy as major instruments for achieving their objectives,” as was stated in the Agreement.  One of the main goals is the willingness by both Parties to make positive contributions to strengthening ties between businesses in China and The Bahamas in their respective fields...

Philip Simon steps down as Executive Director of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce - Jul 22, 2010 - 11:50:09 AM


Nassau, Bahamas - Effective August 30th Philip Simon will play a new role in the ongoing development of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce as he steps down from the position of Executive Director, a position he has held for the past 8 years. Although he is stepping away from the day-to-day management of the Chamber, Philip will continue to play a pivotal role in the ongoing affairs of the Chamber at the Board of Directors level.

President of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, Khaalis Rolle commented that “Philip Simon brought the Chamber into the 21st century; When he came onboard the Chamber was a shell of a building with few functional programs. Through his hard work, dedication and tremendous personal sacrifice he is chiefly responsible for modernizing the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and giving it the strong voice it enjoys today. Nassau, Bahamas – Members of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce’s executive team and special guests paid a courtesy call on His Excellency, Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General of The Bahamas on Wednesday, June 25th as part of the Chamber Week celebrations. During the meeting, the group updated Sir Arthur on the week’s events and discussed topics relating to the Chamber’s Theme, “Business Unusual”. Sir Arthur was not only generous in his hospitality but also delighted his guests with childhood stories of Inagua and the commerce that took place between the family islands and New Providence in the early days.

“Bahamians are entrepreneurial people,” he said. “From the time I was a boy, people on the islands traded with New Providence but they also traded with Cuba for supplies and Haiti for their mangoes.” He reflected on Nassau’s situation citing Bluehill Road and East Street saying, “You just have to look at the commerce that takes place on those streets and understand that all parts of the population get involved...

Nassau, Bahamas – The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce celebrates Chamber Week 2010, under the theme, “Business Unusual” from Tuesday, June 22nd to Friday, June 25th.  The exciting week-long activities will be held at the Hilton British Colonial Hotel starting with a Mix ‘N Mingle Cocktail Reception on Tuesday at 6:30pm with entertainment by Tingum Dem. 

On Wednesday the 23rd, the Annual General Meeting and Luncheon will be held at 12:30pm where the keynote speaker will be Franklyn R. Wilson, CMG, the Chamber’s 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient. 

On Friday, the 25th, the Chamber’s 39th Annual Awards Presentation will recognize the Chamber’s 2010 Lifetime Achievement Recipient, Rupert Roberts, Businesspersons of the Year, Christopher and Eleutherios Tsavourssis, Entrepreneur of the Year...
