Press statement by The Hon.C.V. Hope Strachan on the passing of Mrs Shandika Charlton, Chief Councillor, Mayaguana District:
I am shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the death of Mrs
Shandika Charlton, Chief Councillor for The Mayaguana District. Mrs.
Charlton who has served on the Mayaguana District Council since the year
2005, was one of the Local Government practitioners who was honoured
for dedicated efforts toward the advancement of Local Government during
the awards ceremony held this past Friday, 24th July, 2016 at Breezes
Super Club in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of The Establishment
of Local Government in the Family Islands.

passing of "Smiling Pat", Patricia Hoyte Zonicle, who of late had been
living in Cat Island, after years in Grand Bahama Island.

owner and operator of "Smiling Pats Adventures," she was no stranger to
hard work and dedication. She was truly an ambassador to her country.

condolences over the sudden and unexpected passing of Bahamian sports star Mr.
Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in Florida recently.
Kevin
“Kimbo Slice” Ferguson rose to fame through his widely viewed videos of his
backyard brawls and then his transition into the professional arena of Mixed
Martial Arts.
We
are deeply saddened by his sudden passing as he had only just begun to impact
the Bahamian populous through his large international following and involvement
in mixed martial arts on the world scene...

Min. Hope Strachan on the Passing of Chief Councilor Abner Pinder -

I was saddened to learn that Chief Councilor, Mr. Abner Pinder, Spanish
Wells District Council, passed away on Sunday, 5th June 2016 at a
Florida hospital.
Mr. Pinder was the longest-serving Chief
Councilor in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas since the inception of
Local Government. He executed his duties with professionalism, and
proficiency. The Local Government family, the community of Spanish Wells
and indeed The Bahamas all mourn his loss.

It is with a great sense of sadness and loss that the Free National
Movement pauses today to mark the passing of a truly great FNM and a
great Bahamian, Mr. Abner Pinder.
Abner was an outstanding son of
the historic Settlement of Spanish Wells, Eleuthera. He served for many
years as Chief Councilor and Council member in the Local Government
District serving North Eleuthera and Spanish Wells. Abner, in his
private avocation, was a renowned Seaman and community leader. In fact,
certainly in FNM circles, he had long been dubbed as “The Mayor of
Spanish Wells...”

Bahamas Tourism holds grieving session to cope with tragic loss of Princess Simms -

With heavy and somber hearts, executives and a staff of the Ministry of
Tourism held a special grieving session with noted psychiatrist Dr.
Timothy Barrett to help cope with the sudden and tragic loss of the late
Princess Simms, a senior manager of Human Resources, who served the
ministry diligently for nearly 25 years.
The meeting was held at the British Colonial Hilton where staff members prayed and sang songs while comforting each other.

schooling in Freeport it was time for Kimberly to continue her education
in Florida at both Howey-in-the Hills for high school followed by a

condolences to the family of the late Mr. Felix A. Seymour, educator,
businessman, hotelier.
Mr. Seymour began his professional career with the Andros
Island Development Company, Fresh Creek Andros and then moved on to the
Nassau Beach Hotel, as Personnel Manager. Then the Seymour family
relocated from New Providence to Grand Bahama Island,
in 1973. This phase of his career included postings as General Manager

Education, Science and Technology are deeply saddened to learn of the
shooting death of a 12th grade, male student of the C. C. Sweeting
Senior High School. Heartfelt condolences are extended to the family of
the victim and our thoughts and prayers are with them and the C.C.
Sweeting Senior High School family as well.
While the incident
occurred outside school hours, we are nonetheless concerned about the
well-being and safety of all students. Reports are that the young man
was walking in the Flamingo Gardens area, when a vehicle approached, he

Nassau, Bahamas - Dr. Donald T. Gerace, 83, of Port Charlotte, Florida,
passed away peacefully March 6th, 2016 after a brief and sudden illness.
Dr. Gerace was an educator whose passion for the marine sciences,
archaeology, geology, and biology of the Caribbean inspired the
scholarship of many students and researchers. A selfless person, Don
Gerace dedicated his life to the work of the Gerace Centre and over the
past 40 years, ensured that Bahamian students had access to countless
scholarship opportunities in the United States. He received the Lady
Sassoon Golden Heart Award in 2010. In 2011, he wrote a book entitled
"Life Quest: Building the Gerace Research Centre, San Salvador, Bahamas"
an autobiography about Don, his family and the history of the Gerace

Harbour Island community activist, businesswoman and matriarch, the Late
Nola Ruby Hanna Percentie, affectionately known as “Ma,” on Saturday

Marguerite Pindling attended.
