OAS and REDLAD sign agreement to strengthen civil society voices - Feb 18, 2020 - 5:40:41 PM
The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Latin American and
Caribbean Network for Democracy (REDLAD) today agreed to join efforts to
strengthen civil society for the defense of human rights, the promotion
of sustainable development and social cohesion in the hemisphere, in
the framework of a visit by the Secretary General of the hemispheric
institution, Luis Almagro, to Panama.

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and
the Government of Honduras today agreed to develop a Penitentiary
Strategy to strengthen the capacities of the National Penitentiary
Institute of Honduras to restructure its prison system and contribute to
the social reintegration of detainees in the Central American country.

Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, said during the signing of
the agreement that “if you aspire to build societies free of violence
and organized crime, you need to have penitentiary centers that educate
and offer the opportunity to rehabilitate and reintegrate people who

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Costa
Rica today signed an agreement to send an Electoral Observation Mission
(EOM) to the municipal elections of February 2, 2020, at a ceremony at
the headquarters of the agency hemispheric in Washington, DC.
The
Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, recalled that Costa Rica
was the first country to which the Organization sent an EOM, in 1962.

Inter-American Convention against Racism, Racial Discrimination and
