Chemical Spill In The Rand Memorial Hospital Laboratory Under Control - Nov 8, 2018 - 3:45:41 PM


Laboratory and Radiology services temporarily suspended today at the Michaela Virgill Storr Pavilion of the Rand Memorial Hospital following a minor chemical spill in the Laboratory this morning. No injuries were reported, however cautionary measures were taken for employees affected to be seen by doctors on staff. At no time did the incident impact patients admitted on the hospital’s wards, as teams worked quickly to contain the spill...

Palm Cay officially broke ground Monday, November 5, on what developers called its most ambitious project to date, the highly-anticipated $100 million One Marina residences, two- and three-story luxury condominiums and spacious penthouses overlooking the community’s award-winning marina.

In hard hat and equipped with a golden shovel, Minister of Works Desmond Bannister helped turn the first shovel of dirt in a postcard perfect setting with the Atlantic Ocean as backdrop and an array of boats docked at the marina in view.

The works of young Bahamian artist, Lyndera Hall, were recently displayed in The Islands Of The Bahamas booth during the Las Olas outdoor art event in the arts district of downtown, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The young artist, who was also in attendance in The Bahamas booth along with the Bahamas Tourist Office (BTO), Florida marketing team, had the opportunity to see her work being appreciated by the thousands that strolled through the area over the 2- day weekend of the popular art show.

Following the Prime Minister’s mandate to make ease of doing business a top priority for the Government, the Ministry of Finance is spearheading an inter-agency working group to make business faster, cheaper and better in The Bahamas.

The incremental move in the latest World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking is a welcomed sign that the Government’s initiatives are reaping benefits. However, the target for the inter-agency working group is to see at least a 15% increase over the next few years, not just a 1% increase in the rankings...

Students at the Central Eleuthera High School learned about gender-based violence, on November 6, 2018, when Spouse of the Prime Minister Mrs. Patricia Minnis visited the Palmetto-Point school.  Students who were members of the Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps formed a receiving line for her when she arrived, and band members played a fanfare in her honour.  Principal Marie Galanis and faculty members joined with the students in welcoming her, and District Superintendent for North and Central Eleuthera Myrtle McPhee and representatives from New Providence accompanied Mrs. Minnis.  Among topics she addressed with the students were physical violence, inappropriate touching and bullying.

Thursday, November 15, is the deadline to submit Oscars Submission Forms (OSF) in the general entry categories to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 91st Academy Awards® consideration.  Films will not be accepted for consideration after the deadline.

For a feature film to be considered for the 2018 Awards, the film’s distributor or producer must upload via Dropbox a scanned, signed copy of the OSF and legal billing (complete on-screen credits) or deliver a signed OSF and the film’s legal billing to the Academy’s 8949 Wilshire Boulevard office...

The fourth event in The Winterbotham IC Junior Tennis Series went to Freeport last weekend and again proved very successful.

This unique series for 10 & under and 12 & under junior tennis players based on a round robin format over just one weekend attracted participants from both Freeport and New Providence. So it once again widened the participation in this important development group for the future of Bahamian tennis...
 
The competition took place on the Y.M.C.A. courts with the IC organisation working together  with The Grand Bahama Tennis Association and its coaches to stage the event.
