FNM: Delusional Davis can’t alter the past - Dec 2, 2019 - 10:15:46 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding Brave Davis’ commentary on last Friday’s blackout:
“Friday’s
blackout is the direct result of years – if not decades – of neglect
and mismanagement at BPL. The adverse impact of the PLP’s incompetence
during their five years in power – where Brave Davis himself had a
critical hand in BPL – still reverberates to this day...

DNA on Resignation of Senate President - Dec 2, 2019 - 1:40:25 PM
The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) notes the resignation of the
Senate President Kay Forbes-Smith in pursuit of greener pastures and
better compensation within the newly established Disaster Reconstruction
Authority.
The reality is that the Free National Movement (FNM)
has been a disaster over the last three years they have been in office.
This heartless and inept administration has continued to embarrass and
place more taxes on the Bahamian people since they assumed office almost
three years ago...

FNM: Cooper – Still a mouthpiece for PLP misbehaviour - Dec 1, 2019 - 1:45:51 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
regarding Chester Cooper’s repeat of the PLP’s rhetoric concerning the
Government’s solutions for BPL:
“Ill timed. That was the thesis
of Brave Davis’ closest protégée, the loquacious Chester Cooper, in
commenting on the Electricity Rate Reduction Bond Bill. Only the woeful
PLP could take as many paragraphs to say absolutely nothing meaningful,
while simultaneously proving their own incompetence...

FNM: Minnis Administration cleaning up PLP’s mess - Nov 28, 2019 - 7:30:07 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
regarding the PLP’s contributions to the unsatisfactory state of BPL:
“Leave
it to the woeful PLP and their conveniently forgetful leader, the old
and tired Brave Davis, to be against something they were for not many
years ago. It was the PLPs’ very own historical revisionist, Brave
Davis, who first introduced legislation that would raise rates on
consumers to pay off the debt incurred for pensions and technical
improvements, among other expenses...

DNA: PM should stop using marijuana to deflect - Nov 24, 2019 - 10:33:35 PM
The Prime Minister has continued the old tactic of deflection whenever his government is called out on national issues.
In
recent times, Dr. Minnis has used the marijuana debate to take
attention away from the FNM administration's devious plans. The first
time Dr. Minnis said he now supports the decriminalization of small
amounts of marijuana and medicinal marijuana to deflect from the
announcement that they are in the process of borrowing $650 million for
BPL...

Shanendon Cartwright on expunging records for small possession of marijuana - Nov 24, 2019 - 10:05:49 PM
The recent statement by the Most Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Hubert
Minnis on his support for expunging the records of people convicted for
possession of small quantities of marijuana is progressive, courageous
and in my view the right thing to do. For decades, many young Bahamian
men including those who live in the St. Barnabas Constituency have had
their lives and livelihoods put on hold as a result of these records...

DNA: Government has steered us into an economic crisis - Nov 24, 2019 - 3:40:27 PM
The Bahamas under the Free National Movement (FNM) is at crossroads in
an economy that has been steered into a crisis of epic proportions. Just
after the government finally admitted that they have presided over an
energy crisis with their oversight of Bahama Power and Light (BPL), the
economic outlook is dimmer than it has ever been in recent memory. The
fiscal deficit for 2019/20 is now projected to be $678 million (5.3% of
GDP) with expected additional borrowing of $507 million, unemployment is
projected to increase to over 13%...

FNM: Cooper paints over record to smear government - Nov 24, 2019 - 3:15:33 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
responding to Chester Cooper’s comments regarding the government’s
borrowing strategy to mitigate revenue setbacks of Hurricane Dorian:
“One
of the old and tired Brave Davis chief henchmen, the loquacious Chester
Cooper, never fails to attack the FNM government, even as the sound
fiscal strategy is combating the deficit the PLP left behind...

FNM: Neglect of PLP Administration still impacts us today - Nov 20, 2019 - 10:00:35 PM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement
regarding the current challenges to BPL as it relates to the PLP’s years
of neglect:
“Since taking office in 2017, our Prime Minister Dr.
Hubert Minnis and the FNM government has aggressively worked to reverse
the shortcomings of the previous PLP tenure – including seeking to put
an end the rampant corruption witnessed under the PLP as well the
numerous broken promises that they made to Bahamians...

FNM: Bahamians still paying for PLP’s failures - Nov 20, 2019 - 9:15:46 AM
The Free National Movement (FNM) issued the following statement regarding the newly discovered PLP computer scandal:
“The
woeful PLP’s reign may be long over, but the wounds caused by their
disastrous time in office continue to cost taxpayers, limit opportunity
and prevent progress. It was just last week that a Dutch investigation
implicated the Christie Administration in a bribery scandal. This week
it was revealed that during the Christie Administration the Public
Hospitals Authority paid a vendor millions to update the hospitals’
technology by digitalizing patient records but failed to make any
progress...

DNA: The Bahamian people can only take so much - Nov 17, 2019 - 3:20:19 PM
The assault on the shrinking middle class and further increase in the
burden on the working class continues. It is crystal clear that the Free
National Movement (FNM) government is now officially tone deaf to the
cries and concerns of the struggling masses.
Our people are
finding it difficult to make ends meet with a regressive Value Added Tax
(VAT) which has significantly increased the cost of living and doing
business in The Bahamas. The ousted Progressive Liberal Party (PLP)
imposed this tax at 7.5% and their successor FNM government increased
the tax to 12% but that is not all...

FNM: Promises made, promise kept Vol. 3 - Nov 14, 2019 - 9:00:59 PM
Though criticism of BPL mounted for five years under the woeful PLP, the
Christie Administration continued to neglect needed upgrades, choosing
rather to pass on the results of their complacency to the next
government.
-What They Did Then-
“Today’s load shedding
occurs because of the PLP decided to continue using outdated equipment,
some 60 years old, rather than planning upgrades to improve service,
capacity and reliability...

Disaster Relief Contribution - Senator Jobeth Coleby-Davis - Nov 13, 2019 - 4:55:45 PM
Madame President, before I begin my Contribution I wish to raise in this
Honorable place a formal objection regarding the matter of the
communication by the AG. Madame President it is clear that the
conventions state there should be no controversial material in a
communication and nothing that invites debate. However, on Monday pass,
ignoring the conventions and rules, the PLP was ambushed and accused of
things that it never did or said! I was further surprised and could not
believe that the Vice President in accordance with practice allowed the
communication and then allowed the Senate to be suspended without, in
the interest of fairness, an opportunity to hear the other side...

Disaster Reconstruction Authority Bill 2019. However before I begin, I
would like to take the opportunity to extend condolences on behalf of my

Senator Fred Mitchell on the response of the President of the Senate - Nov 10, 2019 - 5:54:31 PM
On Thursday 7 November 2019, I received a two line communication from
the President of the Senate in response to a letter written on behalf of
the Progressive Liberal Party dated 24th October 2019.
The PLP’s letter raised inter alia the fact that a debate on hurricane
relief was about to occur in the Senate and given her role as one of the
coordinators of hurricane relief in Grand Bahama directly answerable to
a Minister of the government, she was in a position of a conflict
between her role as presiding officer of the Senate and that of a member
of the executive.
It was suggested that at the very least, she should not have presided over the debate last week, given her dual role...

I rise today on behalf of the good people of Exuma and the good, as well

Recovery Authority Bill, 2019.
And as is my tradition I will say at the outset that we are not going to support this legislation.

case brought against Frank Smith under dubious and questionable

Appeals Court, the FNM has decided to take their crusade of persecution
to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

DNA: Speaker must not stifle the Fourth Estate - Oct 30, 2019 - 1:45:03 PM
The Speaker of the House of Assembly has been making the headlines for
the wrong reasons since the Free National Movement (FNM) assumed office
in 2017. As the head of the second arm of government, the Speaker holds a
pivotal role in our parliamentary democracy and ought to uphold the
highest standard in the discharge of his duties.
Regrettably, the Speaker has fallen short of the expected decorum, composure and objectivity required of his office...
