Traveling advice for old ladies - Dec 28, 2018 - 2:10:30 PM
“As an older woman, retirement should be a wonderful time to do exciting
things with your new-found freedom. A considerable part of your life
may have involved taking care of your kids and spouse and focusing on
your career, leaving very little ‘you’ time. Finally, that time is here.
This is the next exciting chapter of your life.” That’s what the
National Council on Aging Care says.
Really? I didn’t find any information about aging body bathroom parts.
Hmmm. The following are my ideas for experiencing happy hygiene while
traveling on vacation...

The battle between two warring factions of a robotic race continues on
an alien planet. A young inhabitant of the planet is thrust into the war
when it is discovered that he hold information to the location of a
power source hidden on his planet generations before he was born.
Nostalgia
is a powerful thing. It is proof that sometimes the memory of something
makes that thing better than it really was. With that said I have to to
admit I had my doubts about Transformers. There was the poster of
Megatron with the word Destroy on it and the one of Optimus Prime with
the word Protect...

Joe Darville: A Yuletide Cry For Mother Earth - Dec 15, 2018 - 7:14:23 PM
 A recent trip to Bimini, Cat Cay & Ocean Cay, by a team from Save
The Bays, has us asking more questions of this Government than we can
find answers to. Day and night, the all too familiar sound of pilings
being continuously driven into the ocean bed can be heard echoing across
Bimini as an extension to the cruise ship pier takes place. Back in
2014 Save The Bays fought the destroying “developing” resort over its
proposed pier, knowing that the island was too small to bring a 1600
person ship to such a small island as environmentalist knew too well.
The case got all the way to the Privy Council...

to find his family estate in shambles. With the help of a soldier he
once showed kindness to, he will become a symbol to the people in his
area and show them that they can stand up to the unjust authority.
Robin
of Loxley is a nobleman drafted into the Crusades, but when he is sent
home from war due to actions his superior disagrees with he must find
away to get back the life taken from him. Yahya aka John is a Moorish
soldier who lost a hand in battle and has pledged an oath to take down
the people who were responsible for the war that killed his son and
agrees to train Robin to help facilitate this...

Grand Bahama Island Birders' 2018 Fall/Winter Events - Dec 9, 2018 - 10:52:25 AM
One of the autumn highlights for GBIBs was Cornell University's "Big
Day" event on October 6th where more than 17000 birders in 146 countries
observed 6136 species of birds during a 24 hour period. This number
represented more than half of the world's species and was the highest
count for a single day of October birding ever! With so may endemic
species in our region, the West Indies which includes the Bahamas, are
essential to this world-wide birding effort. Puerto Rico turned the
tables on the Bahamas this year tallying 146 over 141 species...

couple decide to start a family and find themselves traversing the
daunting landscape of foster care adoption. They were expecting to take
in a single child but end up opening their doors to three siblings of
different ages as they try to figure a way to work around instant
parenthood and form bounds that could lead to them forming a real
family.
Pete & Ellie Wagner are a couple who flip houses for a
living and decide to become foster parents with the goal of starting a
family, but the foster children they end up taking in are more than they
bargained for...

Essy Bootle: Time to privatize government assets - Nov 19, 2018 - 11:14:09 PM
 I agreed with the PLP when they opposed the sale of majority shares in
BTC to a private company. Now, several years on, I must say that my
position has completely reversed. We now have two telecoms companies and
while I am happy to say that I do not use BTC, I understand that their
service and standards have improved exponentially through competition.
And
what was the anxiety really all about? What did we really lose –
revenue? Hardly, the old BTC was bleeding money just like the rest of
the public ‘assets’ that Bahamians...

aka Freddie Mercury becomes the lead vocalist for the rock band Smile
which becomes the band Queen and with its rise to super stardom he
explores a lifestyle he is unsure of at first...

Essy Bootle: Millions being lost by government - Nov 7, 2018 - 10:45:07 AM
Dear Editor,
Our failure to capitalize on our own airspace is
losing us millions of dollars each year. Most Bahamians may be unaware,
but every aircraft that flies within our national boundaries pays a fee,
a kind of tax if you will, for right of passage through our territory.
The problem is, currently those fees, which can number in the many
thousands of dollars per flight, get paid to the United States
authorities!
It cannot make sense for a free and independent
country to allow another nation to control its airspace, terrestrial
land or sovereign waters...

 Dear Editor,
The issue on the ground is ultimately this: the
government is taking more of the people’s money, but doing less for the
people in a tangible way with the extra money it is taking. That is what
more revenue versus less expenditure ultimately amounts to in real
terms. So yes, you have a figure for first quarter (and it is only first
quarter), but all governments must ask themselves “how is life changing
on the ground for everyday people in their everyday lives?”
Yes
you are collecting more in VAT, but all that means is our bills have
increased and we have less of our own money to spend. Yes you are
choosing not to spend money on certain things...

Eleuthera whenever I visited my grandmother, Lillian Culmer. I spent
many summer breaks and holidays in Eleuthera. I consider it my second
home. There are few places on this planet that are as beautiful with so
many pristine areas...

I read with horror the news that Royal Caribbean
Cruise Lines has a bid before Government to redevelop Nassau Harbour. It
seems that under Prime Minister Minnis, we risk being completely taken
over by the gaudy, tacky theme park nightmare that is cruise ship
tourism.
Lighthouse Point for Disney, a new port for Carnival
Cruises in Grand Bahama, and now this? If he is not careful, Dr. Minnis’
legacy will be transforming the Bahamas into the republic of neon
lights, silly games and plastic water-slides...
