Ambassador Joudi Shares Vision of Expo 2020 with the Rotary Club of South East Nassau -

New possibilities and exposure for The Bahamas will be
realized with the country’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai. Last
Fall, it was announced that The Bahamas would take part in this world
fair where 180 countries are expected to showcase achievements of their
nations. Rotarians from the Rotary Club of South East Nassau heard about
the six-month Expo that ends in April 2021 where approximately 25
million visitors are expected to attend. The Bahamas is looking for
talent and participation for their pavilion and Rotarians were invited
to play a part.
With a collaborative effort between the Bahamas
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of The Bahamas (UB), a
design challenge for the Bahamas pavilion for Dubai was kicked off by
presentations from 4 groups. They comprised of students from the
departments of architecture...

Rotaract Club of East Nassau successfully holds its 5th Annual Entrepreneurship Panel -

On 19 January, 2017, The Rotaract Club of East Nassau (RCEN) hosted its
Fifth Annual Entrepreneurship Panel Discussion, under the theme
“Entrepreneurship: The Leap of Faith!” at The Nassau Yacht Club. The
event was moderated by Patrice “Puppy” Treco Robinson, Founder of
Pupstar Entertainment and a proud Past President of RCEN. Patrice
“Puppy” Robinson engaged the nearly two hundred attendees in a thought
provoking discussion with panelists on the topics discussed.
This
year’s diverse group of Panelists included: Alexandra Maillis-Lynch
(Events By Alexandra/Festival Rum Bahamas), Charles Johnson (Crossfit
Potcake), Jarrel Hall (Relish), Jason Kinsale (Aristo Development)

Heart Foundation Accepting Nominations for Golden Heart Award -

The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation
and The Heart Ball Committee are accepting nominations for the coveted
53rd Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award. This award, the people’s award, is
presented at the ball to someone who is recognized for Community Work,
selflessness, and a promoter of human welfare and dignity, thus making
life better for their fellow men.
The public can submit
nominations accompanied by a letter or statement explaining why the
person recommended should receive the award.

GGYA kicks off 30th anniversary with a church service -

The country’s premier youth achievement programme, the Governor
General’s Youth Award kicked off its Pearl Anniversary with a church
service Sunday, January 22, at Christ Church Cathedral on George Street.
A
select group of 30, comprised of members of the board, management
council, volunteers and participants of the 30-year-old programme were
in attendance.
A prevention programme for youths, GGYA has helped to transform the lives of 10,000 participants since its launch in 1987...

Bahamian artists contribute to "CONCH GONE" music video to support Conchservation Campaign -

Conch Gone, a five-minute original music video featuring a host
of young Bahamian artists depicting a Bahamas without conch has gone
viral on social media and will be aired on local television stations.
The
video premiered recently at the Green Parrot Restaurant on East Bay
Street to a standing ovation and loud cheers from a high-level audience
of environmentalists and media professionals. It featured more than a
dozen performers and was directed by Lavado Stubbs of Conchboy Films.
According to one audience member, "The message for the protection of conch was well-crafted and highly entertaining..."

Zonta Club to host ‘Tapas N Jazz’ fundraiser for Ranfurly Home and Workforce Readiness Program -

The Zonta Club of New Providence is looking to raise
much-needed funds to assist in the construction of the country’s first
Transition Home at the Ranfurly Home for children, with a ‘Tapas N Jazz’
event set to entertain and contribute to the cause at hand.
On
February 4th, 2017 the Sapodilla restaurant will be transformed into a
jazz garden as premiere jazz artists in the country take to the stage to
help generate much needed funds to help get the non-profit children’s
home further to their target of building transition homes...

Leading Ladies Shine at Red Dress Soiree -

Nassau, Bahamas - More than 300 persons filled the Imperial Ballroom at
Atlantis for the third bi-annual Red Dress Soiree, powered by Aliv held
on December 10, 2016. The event, whose silent auction benefits The
Bahamas AIDS Foundation, raised thousands for the foundation’s work with
adolescents affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS.

part event – runway show, dinner and silent auction featured twelve of
The Bahamas’ trailblazing women who showcased original designs by twelve

BTVI Support for Sisters -

recently raised funds to assist the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support
Group - a non-profit charitable group for women diagnosed with breast
cancer.
A cheque of just over $700 was presented to group
president, Andrea Sweeting. For the past five years, the group
has received a helping hand from BTVI, in its fight against breast cancer...

Nassau, Bahamas - Kingdor National Parkinson Foundation is pleased to
announce that its Sixth Annual Speech Competition was a resounding
success. The
event was held at the British Colonial Hilton Hotel, #1 Bay Street on
Sunday, November 27, 2016. The topics were both thought provoking and
timely, “Parkinsonians: People Who Move Change The World” and “Unite In
The Fight Against Parkinson’s Disease”, for the junior and senior high
students respectively. Despite the interruptions by Hurricane Matthew,
that disrupted the organization's contacts with the schools and
students, there were still approximately thirty students who entered the
competition for the junior and senior divisions from both public and
private schools...

Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas Donates to the One Eleuthera Foundation -

Nassau, Bahamas – Continuing its efforts to support family island
communities in combating breast cancer, the Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas
(RCOB) presented a cheque of $5,000 to the One Eleuthera Foundation in
support of their cancer screening initiative in Eleuthera.
Assistant
Governor Tim Ingraham and Assistant Governor Mario Smith made the
presentation to Shaun Ingraham, CEO of the One Eleuthera Foundation. Mr.
Ingraham thanked Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas for their support and
donation which will assist with the organisation’s cancer screening and
imaging program. Ingraham said the purpose of the Eleuthera Imaging
Program is to provide mammogram and ultrasound services on the island.

on Eleuthera, Cat Island, Long Island and Exuma will launch in early
2017.
The programme is a partnership between One Eleuthera

Islands, the blue holes, the mangroves and birds from Rudy Sawyer,
owner/operator of Blue Green Outdoors on Saturday November 19th, 2016.
Students from the Beacon School, Martin Town Primary, Sunland Baptist
Academy, Freeport Primary, Freeport Gospel Chapel School, Hugh Campbell
Primary, St. Georges High School, and Bishop Michael Eldon School were
all in attendance.

Guiding in Exuma Celebrates Ten Years -

Exuma, Bahamas - Guiding in the Bahamas has been and remains one of the most
enriching experiencing for young girls and women. This experience has been
shared throughout the length and breadth of this country and Exuma has not been
left out. Units are currently operating in primary schools from Rolleville to
George Town with a Guide and a Ranger unit at L.N Coakley High School. The
island boasts of a total of nine successfully blossoming units which are being
cultivated by an enthusiastic dedicated group of Guiders. The newest addition
to the district is the reactivated brownie unit at the Mt. Thompson Primary
School. Despite its ups and downs the Exuma District has managed to hold its
own over the past ten years.
Over the course of ten years the Exuma District has
participated in numerous events which have made them visible in the community.
They have been instrumental in the organizing of the Remembrance Day Ceremonies
and they have been active participants in island wide clean up campaigns...

Bahamas Ntl Trust responds to Chinese fishing proposal -

On Friday (Nov 4) the Tribune reported comments by Agriculture and
Marine Resources Minister V Alfred Gray on a ZNS radio talk show
clarifying his role in a proposal to allow Chinese investment in the
Bahamian fishing industry.
The minister said he had authorized
the Bahamian ambassador to China, His Excellency Paul Gomez, to discuss
possible investments with the Chinese. He also said Ambassador Gomez had
raised the matter with the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) and other
agencies...
