Video presentation on the Antique Auto Club of The Bahamas - Sep 10, 2010 - 11:51:18 AM
Nassau, Bahamas - The
Antique Auto Club of the Bahamas was formed in Nassau on July 26, 1987 with an
initial six members, those being Richard Chestnut, Lenny Brozozog, Don Aranha, Alonzo
Rolle, Murray Forde and Charles Johnson.
All
vehicles older than twenty years old are allowed entry to the club. Membership
has grown steadily over the years and presently stands at over 50. New members are always welcomed.
The
Club holds an Annual Car Show and Steak-out in the middle of March every
year. This year 51 cars and trucks were present plus 7 motorcycles. This
year’s show commemorated one of the three founding members of our club,
Mr. Charles Johnson, who sadly passed away last year...

(VIDEO) Standing Ovation cast perform and raise over $50,000 for the Ranfurly Children's Home in Bahamas - Sep 10, 2010 - 1:21:48 AM
Nassau, Bahamas - On August 7, the
Standing Ovation cast hit the Bahamas to
perform dances and musical numbers from the film for a charity concert
to benefit the Ranfurly Home, an orphanage for children in Nassau. The
cast prepared for weeks under the direction of choreographers Debbie
Apalucci and Krystal Tini, along with world-renowned vocal coach Sal
Dupree, who grew up in an orphanage himself. Sal was able to relate to
the children and reminded them to keep their faith, always believe in
themselves, and remember that there is life beyond the orphanage.

(VIDEO) Use Less Plastic - Save Our Oceans - Aug 8, 2010 - 6:49:38 AM
More than 35,000 acres of coral reef in the Bahamas have been
protected as a result of donations made during the opening week of
Disney's
OCEANS movie in April this year. That translates to an area that is two-and-a-half
times as large as Manhattan, and big enough to house 412 Disneylands.
Disney announced that as part of its campaign to protect even greater
areas of Bahamian coral, a portion of the proceeds from the first week
of
OCEANS DVD and Blu-ray sales would go to the Nature Conservancy's Bahamas marine protection project.

OCEANS, Save Oceans campaign associated
with the movie, 17,843 Americans pledged to reduce their use of plastic
bags...

Nygard Cay, The Bahamas - Follow The Bahamas Weekly News Team on a Bahamas Desination exclusive at the world famous Nygard Cay, owned by fashion tycoon Mr. Peter Nygard. TBWeekly's Dave Mackey and Robbin Whachell accepted an invitation to attend the 2008 Bahamas Fashion Week in July by founder, Kevin Strakan.
During that visit the Team was invited to Nygard Cay and given a private tour and interview with Peter Nygard on the very day he received his Lifetime Achievement Award for his achievements in fashion.

Pepsi Refresh Project, a groundbreaking effort to foster innovation in social good, will award more than $20 million this year to fund great ideas that refresh the world. The program launched on January 13 and has already exceeded expectations by receiving the monthly limit of 1,000 submissions in less than seven days with at least one from each state in the U.S. Joining this effort are actors Demi Moore and Kevin Bacon, who have generated their own ideas for Pepsi Refresh and are competing for support in the Pepsi Refresh Celebrity Challenge, which also launches today.

Nassau, Bahamas - The Oasis of the Seas, in one of the ports of call for the largest Royal Caribbean's cruise ship brings a video regarding their inaugural sailing into Nassau which took place on December 11th, 20009.
In this video you will hear from the Captain William Wright, Sr. VP Marine Operations for Royal Caribbean; Bahamas Minister of Tourism, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace; Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Vernice Walkine; the VP of Government Relations for Royal Caribbean, Michael Ronin; and Sr. VP Land Operations for Royal Caribbean, Craig Milan.
The Bahamas put in an investment of 30 million dollars into dredging the harbour to allow for this vessel, and the dredging project took 6 months.

11:50am on
the 19th April, in Dean's Blue Hole, Long Island, Bahamas New Zealander
William Trubridge became the
first man to pass the barrier of 300 feet (92 meters) freediving
completely unassisted - a discipline called "constant weight no fins."
The dive time was 3:45.
Constant Weight No Fins is the purest
measure of human aquatic potential, and athletically the most demanding
of the freediving disciplines. The dive took place during the
Vertical Blue Suunto Dive-Off competition which runs from April 17-27
and sees the best freedivers in the world compete to extend the limits
in this extreme sporting discipline. Dean's Blue Hole is the deepest
blue hole in the world, at 203 meters (660 feet).

Married Too? on
March 29th, 2010.
Hundreds of Atlantis guests lined the entrance of Coral Towers, and the
corridors to the theater hoping to get a glimpse and photo of a star.
Perry was greeted with thunderous
applause as he took the stage prior to the screening. He thanked the
Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and its film commissioner, Craig
Woods and also thanked the 50 Bahamians who worked on the film.
The Bahamas Weekly News Team was on hand to capture a few
interviews at the event. In this video you will hear from Actor,

White (Marcus), Bahamas Film Commissioner Craig Woods, Leslie
Vanderpool, Founder of The Bahamas International Film Festival, Mr.

Grand Bahama Island - As Bahamian author Marina Gottlieb Sarles gears up to release her second book; “
The War Horses”, she is simultaneously releasing the second printing of her first book; “
Sand in My Shoes.”
In this video interview Marina transports us on a journey to the early days of Grand Bahama and Abaco where she was inspired by her experiences in the Bahamas through her parents and the many Bahamians she grew up with, to write her first book, “Sand in My Shoes.”
Marina tells of some of the places that “Sand in My Shoes” has taken her; including The Bahamas National Art Gallery,” where she received warm accolades as she read excerpts of her stories to a mostly black audience. They were amazed at Marina’s ability to speak fluent Bahamian dialect.

Originally born in Washington County, Durham England, retired educator turned extra on
Pirates of The Caribbean 2 & 3, directed by Gore Verbinski. With Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Stellan Skarsgård and others, David Cook was inspired to write his book, “Pirates of The Bahamas.”
Cook explains the difference between a buccaneer and a pirate, and speaks of the famous female pirates - Anne Bonney and Mary Read. Nassau was at one time the main hub for pirates, but he also speaks on modern day piracy, that of Norman Cay in the 1980s.
Be prepared to experience what it was like to work as an extra & photo double for Stellan Skarsgård who played “Bootstrap Bill” as David takes you behind the scenes of Disney Pictures',
