The Turks & Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) Executive Policy Committee met to discuss the recovery plan following flooding caused by Tropical Storm Cristobal, today, Monday, 25 August 2014.

Around 12 inches of rain fell on the TCI over the weekend 23-24 August 2014. Flood water is several feet deep in places. There has been one confirmed fatality to date.

This committee will determine how TCIG will tackle the damage, mainly on the islands of Middle Caicos, North Caicos and Providenciales, by assessing the impact of the storm and allocating resources to assist in the recovery.

If the weather improves tomorrow, the Hon. Premier is scheduled to accompany members of the National Emergency Operations Group team traveling to North Caicos to further assess the damage inflicted by the storm. The team's goal is to oversee all major works to aid in storm recovery using manual water pumps to be distributed in Middle Caicos, North Caicos and Providenciales.

Governor Peter Beckingham said, "The images that I have seen, and the brief received from our colleagues who flew over the islands in a US Coast Guard aircraft today, have left us in no doubt of the extensive damage to people's property and possessions."

The Premier, Hon. Dr. Ewing said: "Our immediate action items remain further assessing the extent of the damage inflicted by Tropical Storm Cristobal especially in the islands of Middle & North Caicos. We are sending specialist staff to help those in greatest need, and to better assess the situation."

Also present at the meeting with His Excellency the Govenor and the Hon. Premier were Her Excellency Anya Williams Deputy Govenor, Hon. Akierra M D Missick Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, Youth, Sport, Permanent Secretaries of all Ministries, Director of EMS, Director of Health Services, representatives of Department for Disaster Management, the TCI Red Cross, and the Royal TCI Islands Police.
