TCI Sun News - Former Premier Michael Misick was granted bail with conditions by Chief Justice Edwin Goldsbrough on Tuesday January 7th, hours after returning to the Turks and Caicos Islands to a hero’s welcome.

However, the 47-year-old former leader was temporarily remanded to prison in Grand Turk because all of the bail conditions could not be met when the court closed late Tuesday. If Misick meets the bail conditions before Monday, January 13th 2014, he will be released earlier.

Earlier in the day, Misick was denied bail by Magistrate Kelly Cheema, but his legal team led by Oliver Smith appealed to the chief Justice who overturned the decision.

The former Premier was returned from Brazil by a US military plane around 10:30 a.m Tuesday and was quickly taken to the police headquarters in the island capital where he was questioned for about two hours and then charged with conspiracy to bribe.

As Misick entered the courtroom, there was a groundswell of support for Misick from scores of people from a wide cross-section of the Grand Turk community.

Several prominent persons from Providenciales also flew over to Grand Turk for the court hearings.

Among them were Misick’s brothers Ariel Misick, QC and Chal Misick, former Premier Galmo Williams, businessman Irvin Quelch from Grand Turk, Bishop Coleta Williams, former Minister McAllister Hanchell and businessman Crayton Higgs.

The crowd grew and became more vocal when he was taken to the court by police officers.
