TURKS & CAICOS - The Director of the TCI’s Integrity Commission Mr. Eugene Otuonye Q.C. will be among several leading figures from the Caribbean and the rest of the world discussing the path “Towards a Corruption-Free Caribbean” in the Cayman Islands between March 17 and 21, 2014.

Mr. Otuonye will join the likes of Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. The Hon. Ralph Gonsalves; the Hon. Perry Christie, Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Dr. the Hon. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigerian Minister of Finance and a host of other regional Ministers of government, theologians, academics and subject area experts at a series of meetings and the 2014 conference on corruption organised by the University College of Cayman Islands(UCCI) under the theme “Towards a Corruption-Free Caribbean: Ethics, Values, Trust and Morality”.

Chairman of the board of Transparency International Dr. Huguette Labelle who will open the conference on Wednesday, 19 March, 2014 is also among the speakers. Dr. Labelle’s organization works in more than 100 countries in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Otuonye will share the anti-corruption model of the Turks and Caicos Islands, highlighting the unique features of the TCI Integrity Commission and its expanded mandate.

The delegates will learn first-hand from Mr. Otuonye, the Turks and Caicos Islands’ success story of effectively regulating the financing of political parties, including donations and campaign expenditure under the Political Activities Ordinance, the first of its kind in the Caribbean.

Organisers anticipate roughly 600 attendees, representing a cross-section of regional and international business leaders, government officials, academics and professionals involved in the fight against corruption.

The 2014 conference seeks to bring together the main thinkers and political and civic actors from across the region and the world in “an intellectually rich and open environment” to discuss the values and ethical philosophies that are likely to impact the policies and practices of public institutions at all levels. At the centre of discussion will be the impacts of these decisions on individuals, families, and the countries of the region.

The UCCI is collaborating with Canada’s Carleton University's Centre for Values and Ethics (COVE); the Department of Government of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Jamaica; and the National Integrity Action (NIA) of Jamaica to host the meeting.
