For many years, U. S. Senator Carl Levin has been a thorn in the side of Offshore Financial Centers through highly-publicized critical comments, investigations into alleged tax evasion and money laundering and proposed legislation aimed at curbing legal loopholes.
The Chairman of the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations is, perhaps, best known in the offshore world through his sponsorship of the 'Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act'.
So what's the status of this anti-offshore initiative and what else does Congress have in store for OFCs and U. S. nationals who transact business in them?
Senator Levin's chief investigator, Bob Roach, will provide an insider's account of what is being discussed in the corridors of power in Washington, DC when he presents a session entitled
'US Congressional Offshore Initiatives' at the
9th Annual OffshoreAlert Conference,
, which will be held at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida on April 4-6, 2011. To learn more about the conference, visit

He is one of hundreds of influential figures in the private and public sectors in onshore and offshore jurisdictions who gather each year to learn about the latest developments affecting OFCs. They include judges, law enforcement, regulators, attorneys, accountants, financial services providers, hedge fund administrators, intelligence-gatherers, private investigators and high net worth individuals.
As one attendee said in a profile of the conference that was published in The Wall Street Journal in 2009: "It's like that famous bar in 'Star Wars,' where they all come together – the good guys, the bad guys, the seriously guilty – and they all exchange information on neutral territory."
