– “AWAKE” will celebrate African conscious artists living in
The Bahamas and is intended to be an outpouring of artistic and musical
expression united under one theme and one goal.
The showcase will feature art by Irah Turner
and Hasheen Lockart, clothing by NUUN Gear, Earth Treasures by Priest Philip Blyden,
poetry by Almund “Ali” McIntosh and Ras Jamal, musical performances by Jah
Doctrine and the band Thunder Lightening and Rain (TLR), Nejinote, Anku SaRa,
Bobo Ike, Bobo Stall, Jah Bonifide, and Gene Cage.
The event – which also includes an after-party - will be
held at Smokey’s Place in Gambier Village on
Wednesday, December 28th
from 8pm-12am. Admission is just $10. Attendees will be able to receive a $2
discount on the entrance fee if they donate two canned goods or two recyclable
bottles, which will be presented to charitable and sister organizations after
the event.
Proceeds from the event will be used to forward the work of
the Africans United Coalition – a grouping that works to liberate and unite African
people worldwide. As the New Year approaches the showcase is also a call to reaffirm
the Coalition’s goals as an organization and to celebrate a year of successful
events.
Past events hosted by the Africans United Coalition include
an African Liberation Day Celebration, a Panel Discussion in commemoration of
the International Day of Action on Wars against Africa and African People, and a
National Heroes Day Rally and March.
Africans United is a newly formed coalition established
April 10, 2011 comprised of over 15 organizations and individuals from various
political and ideological persuasions. It is guided by nine resolutions and its
overall goal is to improve the living conditions of African People in The
Bahamas and around the world.
It is also
committed to the total liberation and unification of Africa and African people
everywhere.
