The Bahamas National Youth Choir under the direction of Cleophas R.E. Adderley, OBE, Founder/Director, will present its Eighth Annual Concert of Music for Christmas on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Trinity Methodist Church, Frederick Street and Trinity Place at 7:30p.m. The concert is under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency, Dame Marguerite Pindling, GCMG, Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

The Bahamas National Youth Choir was established in 1983 under the direction of Mr. Adderley as a part of the celebrations marking the tenth anniversary of Bahamian independence. Over the years the choir has toured and given performances in twenty-eight countries on four continents including The United States, Canada, Mexico, England, France, Germany, Trinidad, China, South Africa, and Swaziland. They have also sung in twenty-five languages including German, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Hungarian, Italian and five African languages.

The singers have graced the stages of internationally acclaimed venues including the Concert Hall of The John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.), The Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (New York City), The Grand Hall of The Moscow Conservatory (Russia), Beijing Symphony Hall and The Poly Theatre (China), Oxford University Playhouse and The Barbican (England); and have rendered anthems and sung the responses at mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.

During the summer of 2016, the Choir cruised the western Caribbean via Carnival Cruise Line Vessel Glory. The group performed not only on the ‘high seas’ but in port in Belize, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico.

The evening will commence with the grand but rhythmic Gloria Fanfare by Jeffry L. Ames. The programme will also consist of well-known carols such as Ding Dong Merrily on High, What Child is This? and The Twelve Days of Christmas, as well as works by Giulio Caccini, Randall Thompson and others. The varied programme will also include the Bahamian spiritual, Children Go Where I send Thee arranged by Andre Thomas; Bahamian carols Jun, Jun, Junkanoo arranged by Cleophas R.E. Adderley and Sing De Chorus Clap Ya Han(d) by Jamaican composer Mr. Noel Dexter. Additionally, there will be a 4 hand piano duet skilfully executed by Mrs. Marcia Miles (Choir’s accompanist) and Mr. Nathan Lightbourne (2nd Assist Choir Director), Guest vocalist Mr. Dana Knowles (Baritone) and the Doris Johnson Handbell Choir under the direction of Mrs. Karen Rahming.

The director and members are grateful to Reverend William “Bill” Higgs and the Trustees of Trinity Methodist Church for their continual support of The Choir, and to all others who have helped to make this performance possible. The concert is expected run for approximately one hour and twenty minutes, without intermission so please try not to be late. There is no admission charge but a collection will be taken to help defray expenses. Mr. Adderley is ably assisted by Dexter Fernander, Assistant Director/Keyboard Accompanist.
