Nassau, Bahamas —  Bahamian born Author and Spiritual advisor Dr. Randy E.Simmons, debuts his first book “Island Dreams: My Life As A Boy” as a tribute to the Island of the Bahamas, the island where he grew up.

“Island Dreams was meant to capture and freeze one moment in time that has shaped and given us all such a vision of the Bahamas.

Dr. Simmons considers himself as a product of West End, Grand Bahama, a place where as we say in The Bahamas, he began to “cut his teeth” and began his journey from boyhood to manhood. Dr. Simmons has been influenced greatly by the experiences gained in West End, Grand Bahama as a boy.

Dr. Simmons says that, growing up in West End, Grand Bahama gave him such precious memories of "West End Daze". "Briland Breezes” added to his development, while eating Spanish coconut, Sapa Dillies; sea grapes; conch salad; guava duff or peas soup and dumplings. He found joy in everything he ever did as a boy in his native land. Those were truly the days when these Islands spoke so deeply to his development”.

Despite his move to the United States some thirty-four years ago, Dr. Simmons remains steeped in the traditions of The Bahamas in general, Grand Bahama, and “Briland” in particular; so much so that he often, in speaking about his homeland The Bahamas, you often hear him speak of The Bahamas of his maternal grandfather, which speaks to another place and time…a place where the people treasured friendship, the brotherhood, and sisterhood of family, friend, and neighbor. This is The Bahamas to which Dr. Simmons raises his eloquent voice through his poems. This is The Bahamas to which young Bahamians must be introduced…Indeed; it is The Bahamas of which older Bahamians must be reminded.

It is from this perspective that Dr. Simmons lends his voice to that of the many Bahamian authors who have endeavored to keep the Bahamian culture alive. Dr. Simmons accomplishes this by chronicling his experiences and allowing us to experience his dreams, through his journey from his boyhood to manhood in this book of poetry entitled: Island Dreams – My life As a Boy.
