Nassau, Bahamas -
The Downtown Nassau Partnership
(DNP) is pleased to announce the second annual Holiday
Battle of the Bands. This
exciting showcase will take place on Thursday,
December 23, 2010 from 7 pm to 9
pm.
Rawson Square will be buzzing with the
best youth marching bands in the Bahamas.
The event is open to the public and is
free.
The participating bands include the Church of God
of Prophecy Junior Band, the Police Youth Band, the Golden Gates Assembly Youth
Band, St. Barnabas Concert and Marching Band, and the Church of God
of Prophecy Youth Band. Each band will have between 40 and 80 members. The
bands will compete for bragging rights and prizes.
“We’re excited about this event as it
supports the development of young musicians and entertainers” said Vaughn
Roberts, DNP managing director. Each band will receive a cash grant award for
participating in the event.
“I expect
that the audience will be mesmerized by the musicianship and performance that
the bands will display” Roberts continued.
The Hon. Charles Maynard, Minister
of Youth, Sports and Culture, will be the guest of honour for the event. Superintendant
Ronald Campbell, director of music for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, will
serve as grand marshal of this event.
As a treat for the audience, Willis
and the Illest Band will give a special halftime performance.
The Illest Band performs regularly at various
venues in downtown.
Downtown Nassau Partnership (DNP)
and Take Initiative Nassau (TIN) support the cultural events in downtown as
part of the broader revitalization objectives. This year event is sponsored by
McDonald’s as part of its commitment to the community. “Great music deserves great
food,” said a McDonald’s spokesperson.
