Nassau, Bahamas - He’s
been the familiar voice with a deep resonance and a biting wit, but for
one hour radio host and tourism product activist Ed Fields is going to
take on a new role, live auctioneer
for a cause.
Fields will command the microphone and the crowd when he auctions off
thousands of dollars of donated prizes during the Historic Bahamas
Trinkets & Treasures Fair Saturday, February
6 on the grounds of Collins House, Shirley Street and Collins Avenue.
Proceeds will benefit about 10 charities and provide funds for the
restoration of the entry and stone steps leading to one of the country’s
most historic sites, the Hermitage in
Cat Island.
Among the items to be auctioned are fine jewelry, two Harl Taylor bags,
weekend stays at Albany and at Grand Isle Villas in Exuma, tickets on
Sky Bahamas, a snorkeling trip for
20 through Stuart Cove Dive, numerous gift certificates and vouchers
from John Bull, Kelly’s Home Centre, Super Value, AML and others, plus
dining experiences, six sessions with a leading personal trainer, an
original oil painting by Ricardo Knowles, even
a rare page of nearly half century old stamps.
The live auction starts at
2 pm
and is one of the highlights of the Trinkets & Treasures Fair next
week. Booths featuring fine art, books, antiques, furniture and
collectibles are
making the fair what one participant called “a patio sale with a
platinum ring.”
Admission to the fair is $1 at the gate and proceeds from sale of goods
and the auction will go to participating organizations including
Bahamas Red Cross, Sickle Cell Association,
Historic Charles Towne, Blairwood Academy, PMH Foundation, Price of
Peace Lodge, Special Olympics, the Bahamas National Feeding Network and
more. Along with hundreds of items and experiences offered, the fair
will feature a variety of food booths, the Rotary
burger and soft drink van, Mortimer’s Candy Kitchen, bouncing castle,
live music and entertainment. Hours are from
10-2pm and
4-7 pm
on Friday and
9 am to 4 pm
Saturday.
