Freeport, Grand Bahama – For over five decades the Freeport Players’ Guild has provided quality entertainment for Grand Bahamian residents and visitors alike. Despite constant challenges faced to keep the arts alive here in The Bahamas, the Regency Theatre stands as a home for many of The Bahamas’ top entertainers. While many may not have the opportunity to witness an actual show on Broadway, the Freeport Players’ Guild has brought some of the most well known shows right here to Grand Bahama. Considerably ‘the Broadway of The Bahamas’, it is without question that we recognise and award our members for their hard work throughout the years. Being the only community theatre in The Bahamas, the Freeport Players’ Guild is a non-profit organisation consisting of 100% volunteers.

With the recent passing of Sir Jack Hayward (FPG Founder and Benefactor), it was without reservation that this year’s TWIRP Awards take place in his honour on March 21st at the Regency Theatre. Under the theme: ‘Emerald City’ a tribute to Sir Jack Hayward, attendees can expect a fantastic award show where the very essence of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ will unfold before their eyes. With musical entertainment from a few of our past shows, we assure you that this is not your average awards ceremony. Doors will open at 7pm where the lobby will encourage you to follow the yellow brick road, sip a signature cocktail and try appetisers served before showtime at 8pm to enjoy the entertainment, which is all open to the public.

This year’s nominees will vie for the TWIRP Award in various categories including, best overall production, outstanding set design and construction, best performance by a newcomer, best performance by a lead actor and actress in a drama or comedy and best performance by a supporting actor and actress in a musical among many other categories. A new award will also be introduced this year: The Y.A.R.D. Award for the newly formed Young Adults Regency Drama group.

The executive board of the Freeport Players’ Guild and this year’s TWIRP committee wish to extend congratulations to all of the nominees.
