Freeport, Bahamas - Canadian improv group, The Dumigod Players , who are the stars of he Grand Bahama Performing Arts Society's 4th annual Comedy Show are eagerly anticipating their island getaway when they come to Grand Bahama this weekend to bring their own brand of improvisational humour to the local audience and supporters of the arts. The big show is this Saturday, March 17th at the Regency Theatre at 8pm. 'Improv" is a form of performance art in which actors use improvisational acting techniques to perform spontaneously, typically using audience suggestions to contribute to the content and direction of the performance. Bruce Hunter, Sean Fisher, Aurora Browne, Kris Siddiqi, and Melissa-Jane Shaw have professional backgrounds encompassing acting, directing, dancing, music director, choreography, producing, sketch performer, writer, and their careers involve work on stage, TV and screen. "We are so grateful for the many talented acts and entertainers we get to bring to Grand Bahama to support our Society," said Dalia Feldman, founder of the GBPAS. "They come volunteering their time and skill so that we can enjoy a variety of performances as well as educate local talent, and bring funds for the further development of the arts in Grand Bahama". "The last time I was in the Bahamas I got married. I promised my wife that wouldn't happen this time," said Sean Fisher a music director, actor, playwright and producer who got married in The Bahamas eight years ago.
"When you're Canadian, working anywhere warm while it's cold at home feels like you've won the lottery. And considering we're getting to work with good people, for a great cause, doing a job we love in a lush place, well, guess we won the jackpot round on this one!" said Melissa-Jane Shaw, an actor, dancer, choreographer, producer who has appeared on the Dr OZ show, MTV, and MuchMusic. "This is my first visit to a tropical environment, and I feel honoured that I get the opportunity to perform for an international audience - to try my comedic abilities with a crowd of people from all of the globe, who have different cultures, religions, accents, vernaculars...hairstyles... Canadian Comedy Award winner for Best Female Improv, Aurora Browne said this about the upcoming trip, "I'm unbelievably excited to be invited to The Grand Bahama! Improv has taken me to some amazing places in my life, but none so beautiful as this. I'm looking forward to the workshop and the opportunity to share my love of improv." Leader of The Dumigod Players, Bill Hunter, a professional actor of over 30 years will be leading an improv workshop for local actors, and some of those participants will have an opportunity to appear on stage the night of the show. This show is for adults only and tickets can be purchased in advance for $30 at The Seventeen Shop, Antoni’s Pizzeria or The Art of Giving, or at the door for $35. Wear green on the night and receive a complimentary St. Patrick’s Day Punch!
