Freeport, Bahamas - The Grand Bahama Youth Choir presents their
1st Anniversary Concert "One God, One People, One Bahamas" on Saturday, February 27th at 7pm at the Foster B Pestaina Auditorium, Christ the King Anglican Church.
Tickets are $15 and $10 for children 12 and under.
The
Grand Bahama youth choir is a part of a
non-profit youth empowerment program. This choir is neither restricted by
political or religious associations, and is therefore solely community minded. This
project began on the 27th February, 2009 primarily for the opening
ceremony of the local government conference hosted on Grand Bahama island May
11th 2009.It was the recommendation of then Senator Kay Forbes Smith
to use local young talents for this cultural exhibition .This mandate was then executed
by Mr. Kevin G. Tomlinson, and after four months of preparation this group gave
a stellar performance and received raving reviews throughout the national and
international community. It was later decided that this choir would remain active
in the community as a model representation for the youth of Grand Bahama, and a
cultural icon through the
Bahama Islands.
Under
the direction of Mr. Kevin G. Tomlinson the
Grand Bahama
youth choir is exposed to a variety of authentic cultural music combined with
an array of International choral pieces.
Members of the choir learn to
connect with each performance and their audience surrendering themselves
totally to the moment.
Much emphasis is placed on the
grooming of our young men. They are indeed the leaders. This choir is blessed
to have a wide number of young men. It is because of there love and commitment
for their art, they constantly give themselves completely to each performance
adding that special flavor which
enhances each performance.
A part of the vision for the Grand
Bahama Youth Choir is that each member has a well-rounded view of Bahamian
culture of which spirituality plays a major role. Therefore, members are
exposed to multi-denominational forums represented here in the
Bahamas.
Members of the choir are taught
patriotism. Love Country, and respect each citizen to the same degree as
yourself.
The main objective for each
performance is to constantly spread the message of unity. We are committed to
bringing members in our community together as one.
Members of this choir not only have
bonded musically, but also socially. This program caters to the whole child. It
is our vision that our members remain true examples for their peers.
Professional development sessions are done continuously to enhance each member’s
personal and professional presentations.
Exposure is key. It is the vision
of this program to expose our members to the international world annually;
becoming full ambassadors for the
island
of
Grand Bahama thus creating
a kaleidoscope of musical experiences, while structuring a world-wide network
of artistic counterparts.
