Freeport, GRAND BAHAMA – The local, Lucaya Youth Theatre Society is fully in production and ready to present Grand Bahama with its production of DEAR SANTA on 12th and 13th December, 2014.

Dear Santa, written by the most prolific playwright in Canada, Norm Foster, is his first Family Christmas Comedy, entertaining enough for adults to enjoy and innocent enough for children to love. This is the third Norm Foster play presented by the LYTS directorial team and, as such, Norm Foster has taken an interest in the group and personally agreed to sponsor the production.

Director, Jackie Dack, said, “Mr. Foster has agreed to gift away the royalty fees which has saved this small non-profit a fair sum of money, that was initially budgeted for. Mr. Foster heard about the success of the last production by LYTS, Bedtime Stories in March 2013, and made this incredible offer.

The boost to the production is amazing and the cast are working, and laughing, incredibly hard to provide some quality Christmas spirit to the public of Grand Bahama. The ticket costs have been kept down to $15 for advance sales and they are selling faster than any other production by this director. The public should note that, although it is being staged in the garden of a private house, all who buy tickets are welcome. It is outdoor picnic theatre, so people can bring whatever they would like to eat and drink for themselves during the show. There is no bar or food sales. This is not a money making venture. LYTS is doing this to bring the whole community together at this wonderful time of the year. With that said, the play would not have happened without the help and support of Victoria Ferguson and Furniture Plus.

The event makes for a wonderful works night out. Colleagues can bring a picnic and watch the show together. Live theatre can make for excellent conversation in the break room.

Additionally, the support from Norm Foster means LYTS has been able to plow ahead without having to seek much sponsorship from local businesses which, at this year, is extremely difficult to do. LYTS acknowledges how much support it receives from the business community and it feels fabulous to be able to give back to the community without having to hit up beleaguered companies.

The show features some interesting characters dealing with delayed supplies reaching the North Pole in time for the Christmas Eve deadline, hiding it from Santa (played by Clifford Bowe), a stowaway (played by Nina Bullard) causing some major problems with Santa’s logistics which may or may be solved by Louis Flapdoodle, the Detroit based Sleigh salesman (played by Remardo Russell). The situation is helped and hindered by Santa’s Chief of Staff (played by Tai DeGregory), Bozidar, the Elves Foreman (played by Gabriel Lopez) and Santa’s dippy housekeeper (played by Tallulah Dack). A little boy’s special Christmas wish is on the line (David Riley is played by Szymon Joskowiak) and the plot is held together with some rather dodgy wood glue.

The play will take place the Dack House, along Midshipman Road and anyone can call 374-2879 for directions, maps or ticket info. Tickets are on sale for $15 each in advance or $20 on the day. LYTS is eagerly looking forward to seeing you there.

It starts at 7:30 sharp and the audience needs to arrive before the show starts as there is no admittance after it has begun.

This is a Fundraising production for the Lucaya Youth Theatre Society. LYTS is a fully registered non-profit organization, volunteered staff only, which serves to increase the access to the arts, with integrity and excellence, for the youth of Grand Bahamas.

Jackie Dack, said, “I feel excited and humbled to be able to work with such a great group of people. I am grateful to be able to do what I love so passionately and welcome all people to come and enjoy themselves. As such, if there are any people who cannot afford to pay the $15 for the ticket, we are offering a ‘Bring your own seat or cushion and $5 to watch the Dress Rehearsal’ on Thursday 11th December. This will be presented exactly as the show.”
