Max Taylor working with LCIS grade four students

Nassau, Bahamas - Renowned Bahamian artist, Max Taylor, visited the LCIS campus this week to work with the Grade Four students on his legendary linoleum print techniques.

The students enjoyed working with Mr. Taylor, who commented, "I've always found it exciting to work with children, especially when they can learn and grasp and enjoy what they are doing.  Children, when they really focus on what they are doing, create a world of their own, which makes them happy.  It’s a pleasure to have this opportunity to try and teach them what I know."

Mr. Taylor’s visit was the first of many visits planned by Bahamian artists organized by the school’s new Art Institute.

The LCIS Art Institute was kicked-off in June 2009 with students, staff, parents and community members attending an Art Show & Auction, which showcased the student’s interpretations of Bahamian culture wonderfully and colorfully. Artist Antonius Roberts who recently installed a unique art space on campus, featuring works by Roberts, Brent Malone, Max Taylor and many other famous Bahamian artists, spearheads this exciting new initiative.  The space will provide LCIS students the opportunity to appreciate world-class art pieces, as well as give them the chance to display their own creations alongside those famous artists.

Mr. Roberts commented on the new initiative, “This exciting project will allow for students to experience practical exchanges with some of our celebrated artists like Kendall Hanna, John Cox, Jessica Colebrooke, Heino Schmid and others.  It was wonderful to see Max working with the students and most importantly, for the students to be so receptive and appreciative of having the opportunity to meet him! The Institute is about building bridges. I am excited to see how expansive this bridge will become.”
