unpredictable Hurricane Joaquin the cast and crew were faced with the difficult
task of deciding whether to postpone the Premiere performance scheduled for the
College of the Bahamas, Performance Art Centre that evening. It was then that Gea Pierre, the play’s writer and director, made a decision that has become the theme of her life recently, the show must go on, and go on it
did! The audience was treated to a
stellar show to which the Hon. Obediah Wilchombe, Minister of Tourism called a
“Supreme performance” and others referred to as a masterpiece production.
“Perfect In Weakness” first took the stage on
April 10, 2015 in Grand Bahama and has been a hit ever since. The
production staged eight encore shows in Freeport all too sold-out audiences,
proving that the demand for quality, family entertainment is far greater than
anticipated. The Play which stars, Bahamian favorites such as
Patrice Johnson, Will Stubbs, Tawari Rodgers and Tameka Forbes follows Curtis
the comical Landlord, played, by Stubbs and the antics of his brazen tenants.
According to Pierre “at its core “Perfect In Weakness” is a production about
tragedy and triumph, home and hope”, she says that although she has been
writing plays for twenty years “Prefect In Weakness” is her most acclaimed to
date. “There is something about this production” says Pierre “it
resonates with people on a personal level, there is a character on that stage
that represents everyone.”
Audience members
have called “Perfect In Weakness” a must see, roller coaster of emotions, they
are moved from laughter, to anger, tears to joy instantly.
When asked if this production can be described as comedy or drama, Pierre
smiles and quickly states “A good production is neither. “ She believes
that this work reflects Bahamian life, it is effortlessly humorous, unpredictably
emotional and painstakingly honest.”
