Freeport, Bahamas - Acclaimed artists Maxwell Taylor and Claudette Dean staged their joint art exhibition on Saturday April 19th 2014 at The Grand Gallery at 7pm.  The public was treated to the works of two gifted artists who have shared their works nationally and internationally.  Their exhibition entitled “Perspectives-The Real & The Imagined” displayed a wide range of works including oil on canvas, acrylic, ceramics, charcoal sketches and woodcuts.  Both artists originally exhibited their pieces in solo and group exhibitions in Nassau earlier this year but thought it necessary to bring their work to Grand Bahama to satisfy the growing appetite for original art by both Bahamian and international artists.

Max Taylor is a celebrated artist; he has shared the stage with other Bahamian masters for decades. His work is in collections around the world and he works in studios in The Bahamas, Florida and South Carolina.  While distinguished  for his paintings his woodcut technique sets him apart from other artists. Woodcut is the art of print making; it consists of an image being carved onto the surface of wood, covered in ink and transferred on paper.  Max demonstrated his woodcut both during the afternoon for students of noted artist Alisa Streather and at the opening of Perspectives-The Real & The Imagined.  The audience was attentive and asked a number of insightful questions.

Claudette Dean is an established artist well known for very diverse message oriented oil paintings.  In her remarks she expressed her honour in sharing the stage with veteran Bahamian master artist Max Taylor.  She occasionally uses clay, encaustics & mixed media. Her work is a part of the country’s permanent national art collection and she has been honoured by the Commonwealth of the Bahamas for her outstanding achievements in the realm of fine arts. Claudette’s work is also a part of the Dawn Davies collection featured in the book “Love and Responsibility.”  Many dedicated art collectors have at least one of Dean's pieces in their collection.

The reasonably priced exhibition drew a very good crowd from the cross section of Grand Bahamian society.  Among them were students of art, artists, corporate leaders, art admirers, and persons just looking for a wonderful social outing.

Through this collection both artists transformed innovative and imaginative ideas into reality. Their creativity is personified by their perception of the world in different ways and to establish connections amongst seemingly unrelated and related wonders.

This exhibition marked The Grand Gallery’s third exhibition for the year.  Patrons had a chance to interact with the artists and discussed their works and their views on a wide range of themes over a glass of wine, cider or water.  Miss Francois the Gallery administrator noted that the exhibition will be up for one month and the entire public is invited to visit and view the more than 40 pieces of artwork.
