Freeport, Grand Bahama - The organizers of
the Freeport Players' Guild's High School Playwriting Competition have decided
to up the ante and extend the playwriting challenge to all Grand Bahama youth
up to the age of 25. Veteran playwright
and director Sue-Lynne McCrea is excited that the re-named
'Young Writers Playwriting
Competition' will bring even more current and provocative content to
the Regency Theatre stage.
Entrants will be required to write a one
act play with no more than eight (8) characters. Play structure, realistic
dialogue, staging, and characterization will be studied by the judges. This is
a great way for young people to hone their writing skills and encourage their
friends to perform on stage.
Three Grand Prize winners will be selected
by the judges to have their plays performed at the Regency theatre in
mid-October. The winning writers will be apprenticed to a veteran director of
the Freeport Players’ Guild and mentored in directing a play. Auditions for
roles in the plays will occur once the winners have been announced in early
September.
Time
is of the essence as the final deadline for submitted plays is August 31st. So, put your creative writing cap on, open up
your laptop, or get out a pen and start writing! Call 727-1970 for more information or e-mail freeportplayersguild@gmail.com.
