Results of Grand Bahama's New Year's Junkanoo Parade

Grand Bahama Island - The results of the 2009 New Year's Day Junkanoo parade are in with The Classic Dancers taking top spot.

The Classic Dancers won the parade by a margin of some 101 points.

The group had 2,266 points overall while The Majestic Crusaders group placed 2nd with 2,165. The Swingers rounded out the top 3 with 2,127 points. The Kingdom Culture group placed 4th with 1,489 points, while The Arawak Invaders brought up the rear with some 1,351 points.

The top three maintained the same order for the "Best Costume as A Group" category, with 1,080, 1,004 and 959 points respectively while the Arawak Invaders and Kingdom Culture placed fourth and fifth with 739 and 716 points each.

The group with the best music was The Classic Dancers, with 700 points. The Swingers in 2nd with 673 points, and the Majestic Crusaders with 658 points.

Kingdom Culture were 4th in that category with 489 points, while the Arawak Invaders earned 484 points.

In the "Group Performance Category," the Majestic Crusaders won top prize with 366 points, beating the Swingers by only 8 points.

The Classic Dancers had 354 points in that category, while the Arawak Invaders and Kingdom Culture groups 224 and 210 respectively.

Judges noted that The Majestic Crusaders and The Swingers both executed their themes with the most clarity and awarded them 137 points each to reflect that, resulting in a tie.

The Classic Dancers had 132 points, while the Arawak Invaders and Kingdom Culture  with 104 and 89 points respectively.

The Majestic Crusaders took two spots in the Best Free Dancer category, with 244 and 241 points each, it was the Classic Dancers who won the top prize with some 264 points.

Similar results occurred in the Best off the Shoulder category, with the Swingers taking 2nd and 3rd places with 252 and 229 points respectively, while Classic Dancers again took the lead with 261.

The Best Performance on Gloucester Row was the Swingers with 467 points, and the Classic Dancers and Majestic Crusaders earned 440 and 436 points each.

The Best Banner prize went to the Arawak Invaders with 558 points, and the Majestic Crusaders and Swingers earned 465 and 463.

The Division B results remained the same – first place Harbour Boys, second place Bushwhackers and third place Victory/Sting – for all the categories, including Overall Winners, Group Performance, Best Music, Best Costume as a Group and Best Execution of Theme.
