Freeport, Bahamas - It is a pleasure for the art lovers of Grand Bahama to have Senator David Thompson open the annual Valentine Art Exhibition that has for over 14 years showcased the art works of the Grand Bahama Artist Association on January 4th.

Senator David Thompson will hopefully induce Grand Bahama to include in their Valentine celebrations plans, the Art Experience provided by the Bahamas National Trust and the Grand Bahama Artists Association.

For the month of February, in the professional setting of Glory Banks Art Gallery at the Rand Nature Centre, residents and visitors will have an opportunity to view and purchase an eclectic collection of works of still life, sea/landscape and abstracts in a variety of mediums, many that are tributes to Grand Bahama Island and its history.

In the Bahamas we continue to be made aware of the emphasis that the Government of the Bahamas has placed on Art and Culture by actively promoting Art and Culture.

On Grand Bahama, the Glory Banks Art Gallery at the Bahamas National Trust actively promotes many cultural, educational and artistic exhibits.

Glory Banks, herself an artist, was anxious to give Grand Bahama, her adopted home, a centre for art and entrusted the Bahamas National Trust to carry out her dream. There are over 200 pieces in the Glory Banks Collection in the Art Gallery, some of which are on permanent exhibition.

A visitor to the Valentine Art Exhibition at the Glory Banks Art Gallery not only can view and purchase exciting and diverse art being produced on Grand Bahama Island but also has the opportunity to see many aspects of Bahamian culture that is being represented in the artistic works.

It has often been said that art and culture can be a means for improving the quality of life. Valentine Art Exhibition you could have the opportunity to meet the artists who can personally give insight into their work. In addition if someone in the family shows artistic talent, the Grand Bahama Artists Association membership includes Art Teachers that provide art classes in a variety of mediums.

It is important to note that one does not need to spend a lot of money for an original art piece, the Valentine Art Exhibition has a wide selection of beautiful art pieces in all price ranges. Also there is a special feeling when you own an original piece of art.

The Glory Banks Art Gallery is open Monday to Friday 9 to 4 pm. Schools groups are welcomed and are requested to book in advance by calling 352 5438.

The Bahamas National Trust and the Glory Banks Art Gallery supports the activities of the Grand Bahama Artists Association, a non-profit organization whose mission is to; facilitate artists’ development by supporting and promoting art and artist on the island.

We are all working together on Grand Bahama to establish an appreciation of Arts and Culture which assists Grand Bahamas’s development. An Art and Cultural community with traditions and heritage attract tourists, create jobs and generate income as an artistic community.

We look forward to seeing you at the Valentine Art Exhibition during the month of February.
