Freeport, Bahamas - It was another successful week-end for the Grand Bahama Performing Arts Society (GBPAS) as it launched its 2012 season with its fourth annual chamber music concert starring Trio Collage and guest flutist Judith Pearce. Trio Collage (Tannis Gibson, piano, Mark Tanner, cello and Janna Lower, flute) first performed for the GBPAS in January of 2010 and they returned this year with their talented colleague, Judith, to teach and entertain the Grand Bahama public.

The week-end began with 2 school concerts at Bishop Michael Eldon School Auditorium on Friday, January 20th. Over 800 students in total from schools across the island were in attendance to enjoy the talented group’s music. The relaxed setting allowed the musicians to have fun with the students and the children to interact and engage with the musicians. GBPAS founder and president, Dalia Feldman, had this to say about the student concerts, “We were thrilled to have such a wonderful turn-out for the two student concerts and even more thrilled to see the students enjoying themselves and engaged with everything the group did. Some students had a chance to conduct the trio and many asked some terrific and thoughtful questions about the musicians and their instruments. It was a great day!”

The weekend culminated in an evening concert on Saturday the 21st at the GBPAS’ new home, the Club House at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club. Over 140 people were in attendance to enjoy the inspiring music in the perfect setting. Tannis Gibson, Trio Collage’s Artistic Director and pianist had this to say about the new venue, “The lovely club house at the Yacht Club is a magnificent room for chamber music, one that invites the listener into the experience of the music itself. The closeness of the audience to the players made it very special.”

There was something for everyone as the trio performed classical masterpieces and popular favorites. The passionate concert brought the entire audience to its feet with a standing ovation. “Inspiring”, “Magical” and “Outstanding” were some of the words audience members used to describe the evening.

Barbara Chester, a GBPAS member and long time supporter had this to say, “Each performer truly complemented the others; each brilliantly manipulated his/her instrument into singing, whispering, even shouting with a beauty and joy which was truly food for the soul. My visiting guest, herself a gifted pianist, was amazed at the incredible quality the concert she was witnessing on our small Island; for, as she told me, an unbelievable ticket price of just $20.00. We are so blessed in having Dalia Feldman leading an outstanding team in our Grand Bahama Performing Arts Society to bring us these great musicians...with amazing hearts!  Hearts that not only display an abundant love for their instruments and their music, but also open to share this loving talent with us and our students; thus lifting the quality of life and energy on our Island.”

“This week-end, like all of the GBPAS productions, could not be possible without the support of our members and our sponsors. Special thanks must be given to the Grand Bahama Yacht Club for providing a home for our new baby grand piano and a venue for all of our music concerts at its club house. We also have to thank Karen Clarke and John Gehr of Thayer’s Natural Remedies for joining us again in 2012 as a platinum sponsor and all of our corporate sponsors who provide immeasurable services to us: Pelican Bay Hotel, The Bahamas Weekly, Keen i Media and Mackey Media. We couldn’t do this without you!,” said Feldman.
