Nassau, Bahamas - The Track Road Theatre presents John Buchanan and Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS adapted by Patrick Barlow from an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon.

THE 39 STEPS is directed by Althea Gibson and will run at the Dundas Theatre on Mackey Street from November 20 - 23, 2014 at 8pm nightly. Opening night is the gala event.

The play is presented
by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD By Arrangement with Edward Snape for Fiery Angel Limited. Based on a Hitchcock Movie that was based on a novel of the same name, The 39 Steps follows the misadventures of Canadian Richard Hannay as he gets tangled in the world of international espionage while avoiding arrest for a murder he did not commit.  Set in the United Kingdom during the 1930s the play is fast paced, off the wall, and set to tickle your funny bone.

“The play won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 2007 and the What's On Stage Award for Best Comedy 2007. The 2008 Roundabout Broadway production won the 2008 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and Outstanding Lighting Design (Kevin Adams). It won two Tony Awards on June 15, 2008 for Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. It was nominated for four other Tonys: Best Play, Best Direction of a Play (Maria Aitken), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Peter McKintosh) and Best Costume Design of a Play (Peter McKintosh).” – Wikipedia.

Now for the first time ever, Bahamian audiences will get the opportunity to view this world class comedic drama on the local stage, featuring the extraordinary talents of four individuals who are each no strangers to film, television or theatre; Glenn Sherman Jr., Leslie Ellis-Tynes, Rossano Deal and Gail Hanna.  A delight to behold indeed, is that this two male; two female cast will provide you with an array of colorful characters throughout the entire story as our protagonist Richard Hannay, played by Sherman, attempts to clear his name.

Both Sherman and Deal in fact, have made quite a name for themselves with local audiences as members of Collage Entertainment, known for their hilarious online parodies, the "Hello Monday" and "Stop Likin' Man" web series.  Recently Mr. Sherman, has taken his talents to local television appearing as the host and producer of the weekly late night talk show, "The Not So Late Show," which premiered April 30th on Cable 12.  The Collage Entertainment Co-Founder and Full Sail University graduate credits his early acting opportunities in the Bahamas Faith Ministries, "Youth Alive" conferences as the inspiration for pursuing acting as a career.  Years later, the book "The Purpose & Power of Vision" by Dr. Myles Munroe would completely affirm his decision to do so.

Playing opposite Sherman as his 'multiple' love interest is Leslie Ellis-Tynes, who describes theater as her greatest love of all the performing arts.  She dives into this multi layered role in The 39 Steps, fresh from gracing The Dundas stage in September, with a three weekend performance of the 33rd annual "Summer Madness Revue" by James Catalyn & Friends Theatre troupe in Nassau and Abaco.  This would mark her fifth production with that group, and second performance of 2014 before a live audience following a role in The Bahamas Artist Movement's revival of The Vagina Monologues. Her passion for stage performance has also taken her to work previously with director Clarence Rolle, Track Road Theatre and Ringplay Production's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" for the 2nd annual Shakespeare In Paradise festival.
Theatre however, is just one of several means by which this media personality continues to utilize her creative talents. Within the past five years Leslie has appeared as "Shelly" for Cost Rite TV ads; held the lead in the Bahamian comedy "Crazy Love," the first feature length movie to be screened at Galleria Cinemas; is an alternate host for the television program Native Show; made a cameo appearance in the TV sitcom Gippie's Kingdom and co-hosted the first annual Bahamian Icon Awards.  She is also recognized for her presence in various other television commercials, films, web series and sitcoms.  If you've not had the opportunity to see this talent in action, you may recognize her voice as Ms. Tynes is also a character voice actor and voiced countless radio advertisements.  She is also the exclusive voice talent and producer for the local arm of the McDonald's fast food chain and is known as "Lezz Boogie," her radio handle from her daily role as co-host of the WakeUPandGO Morning Show on 100Jamz.

Within the story of The 39 Steps, audiences witness the metamorphosis of characters, in particular, the roles held by two individuals - one of which being one of the current faces for a local corporation.  Rossano Deal takes on the commanding and the meek at the same time and will have audiences wanting more in his stage performance.  Like his Collage Entertainment cohort, his previous theatre experiences began with "Youth Alive" conferences back in 2005.  He has been on the stage from then until now in a number of plays under the direction of Redemptive Productions; Collage Entertainment and Missouri Baptist University.
With an affinity for both stage and camera, Deal has made appearances in various media productions and was featured in a music video for "The Voice" singer Judith Hill.  This professional tennis player is easily recognized as a result of his role in the internet series, "North of Little Nowhere," after having risen to popularity from the Collage Entertainment's array of online comedies and parodies. He is also currently an image representative for The Bahamas Telecommunications Company; can be seen in television advertisements for KFC, BOSS and Kelly's to name a few; and is a skilled camera operator, production assistant, editor and director; who enjoys sea diving, ping-pong and public speaking whenever he gets the opportunity.  He studied Communications with a focus in Broadcast Media and trained in acting workshops with Ann Dorman and improv with Bill Chott of the Dana Carvey Show & Saturday Night Live.

Like her theatre counterpart that delves into various transformations throughout the play, Gail Hanna is enjoying her 'first season' as a multifaceted  character in the production of The 39 Steps.  She has participated in the final season of the Bahamian variety and sketch comedy show "Da Spot," as well as a few minor roles in prior years.  She enjoys writing and watching a good comedy or murder mystery.
This marketing professional is also a gifted saxophonist and pianist; although with her demanding work schedule, she says she rarely has an opportunity to hone in on these particular talents.  As an avid reader, Hanna considers herself a hoarder of great books as she takes great pleasure in gaining knowledge in every way.  Acting has been an interest for Ms. Hanna for many years and is very grateful to the Track Road Theatre team for the opportunity to develop her acting skills and potential acting career with this production.

Track Road Theatre (TRT) has been in existence since 1996. Since our inception we have gone from being just another amateur theatre group; we have gone on to become an incorporated non-profit foundation that provides Bahamians a vehicle in which to enter the realm of theatre entertainment and the resources to learn, hone, and produce their craft.

Over the years TRT has produced a total of 10 plays, including Da Market Fire and Diary of Souls as well as co-producing the 2 short films, From this Day Forward and Affliction. The organization has also worked with many of the nation’s finest talent and has even taken theatre to the Family Islands, the Caribbean, and The United States of America. TRT has also held numerous workshops and Drama Rama, our summer camp for children. Through Drama Rama, TRT has also published the drama book for children; All of Me is One which is now a part of the Ministry of Education’s curriculum. Further, TRT and its members have also been a part of the annual Shakespeare in Paradise theatre festival.

In the future, TRT seeks to work toward building a sustainable arts community in the country by becoming a resource for the performance arts and film making. We intend to provide any manner of resource, including venues, personnel, material, and also seed money. We believe that the arts are important to our culture and identity as a people. We are convinced that a functional arts community can provide jobs and bolster the tourism industry by providing our guests with an experience that is on par with our international contemporaries. Further, we see homegrown Bahamian stories as entertainment as an integral part of keeping Bahamian culture alive and relevant to future generations.
