Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Arawak
Cay Development (APD) will host an information session and luncheon about the
new port at Arawak Cay. This event, scheduled for Wednesday, August 10,
12:30pm, at the Sheraton Cable Beach Convention Centre, will feature
presentations by APD’s all-Bahamian executive team.
Michael Maura Jr, CEO; Dion Bethell, CFO; and Rudy Levarity,
Facility and Operations Manager, will reveal details of the operation, and the
historic, bottom-up IPO which will allow
the general public to own shares in this landmark initiative. Charles Klonaris,
Chairman, Downtown Nassau Partnership, will also be on hand to explain the
significance of relocating commercial port activities from Bay Street.
“This relocation has been supported and embraced by the
shipping stakeholders who acknowledge that Downtown is far too valuable a
national asset to be used for the dirty and noisy business of shipping and
trucking. This sector of our business community has invested in the future of
our country because they believe in Nassau’s historical value,” said Mr. Maura.
“This new port will be regarded as one of the gems of the
region. As the global investor travels throughout the Bahamas and Caribbean
region he will be drawn to our beautiful waters and pink sand beaches. He will
encounter our warm smile and friendly people, our solid financial services
industry and he will be introduced to unmatched infrastructure, namely the air
and seaport of Nassau. He will make our home his home,” he added.
The expansion of Customs services at Arawak Cay and the
introduction of the Gladstone Fright Terminal will require an increase in job
opportunities. These facilities will handle every consumable product that
enters New Providence.
Winston Rolle, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, will
moderate Wednesday’s event.
“The Chamber sees the Arawak Port Development as being
instrumental in the redevelopment of Downtown as well as affording business to
operate more efficiently if Customs will provide a full range of services as
anticipated. This will mean a one stop shop for dealing with the importation of
goods for your business. The investment opportunity is also attractive as it
provides another opportunity for the local investor to give consideration to
and possibly diversify their portfolio,” said Mr. Rolle.
Tickets for Wednesday’s event: $50, covering food and
beverages. RSVP by August 8th
