The all star season of Mission Catwalk has come to a close, and we are excited to announce that The Bahamas' very own, David Rolle was announced the winner on the final segment of season 5 on November 21st!

His grand prize includes, "JA$1 million funding to manufacture a clothing line company, management contract with international retail agency, a scholarship to pursue fashion/marketing at University of technology, Internship opportunity with an international fashion designer, photo shoot with fashion photographer and a print media advertising package."

"YUMA features fabrics that embody the feel of luxury as I wanted it to be a merge of island chic and colonial inspired couture. The fabrics used included printed silk chiffons, polished stretch cottons, beaded lace and ostrich feathers, Rolle told the Jamaican Observer. "I wanted the feel of the collection to be light and easy so I tried my best to present pieces that would be as easy on the eyes as they are easy to wear. Clean soft lines with delicate ruffles were used that would give a lady a feel of femininity despite the mood of her day."

Rolle said he plans to capitalise on the opportunity as he's learned so much about the financial part of the fashion industry. "This season was all about taking it to the next level and I feel ready to do just that. I created a two-year plan that includes trade shows, overseas production and extensive marketing strategies. I've created a collection that I know can travel the world and be celebrated by women of all walks of life. I'm excited to take this collection to the next level. I know Mercedes Gonzalez, our mentor said that she would be willing to work with all of us so I'll be knocking on her door the day after the competition ends. I plan to become the Mercedes of the Caribbean and learn everything she knows. I'm ready to start running and I've got my money shoes on."

It was in September we told you of the exciting news of Bahamian designer, David Rolle's return to Mission Catwalk for their all star series, and this season's winner will be announced on Saturday, November 21st.

Mission Catwalk had released the photos of the final runway showdown a few days ago. The showdown which took place at the historical landmark, Devon House. The Caribbean hit fashion show is shot in Kingston, Jamaica.

"The name of my collection is 'YUMA' and it was inspired by the Lucayan Indians," Rolle starts to explain. "I wanted to show what I think their evolution would have been as it relates to clothing. When Christopher Columbus stumbled upon the West Indies he met the Lucayans. His diaries suggest that they were naked covered only in body paintings. I wanted to show how they would have eventually transferred those body paintings to fabrics."

Rolle continued, "I imagined the paintings being inspired by life around them. The light blues and whites of a morning sky and dark blues and purples of a sunset. The teal and aqua shades of the ocean. I wanted the prints to be of tropical flowers and feathers. The Lucayan Indians although scattered across the West Indies spoke a similar language and lived with similar beliefs."

Mission Catwalk first featured the designer in season 3 back in 2013, where he placed second in the overall competition, which was won by The Bahamas' Theodore Elyett. David is the founder of House of Raphelita, an evolving Bahamian fashion brand with hopes of one day becoming a lifestyle brand. Raphelita embodies an island allure that never compromises for international appeal.

Congrats David Rolle!
