Nassau, Bahamas - As guest arrived by private shuttles to the stylishly transformed Doongalik Studios on November 5th for the FashionIArt event, they were greeted by a red-carpet and photographers that led them into the property. As it is uniquely dubbed, Fash|Art is a competition based event which focuses on promoting and nurturing emerging visual artists and fashion designers. The parking lot of the property was transformed into a high-fashion runway show as models “rocked the runway” during the fashion segment. “I wanted to include everyone in this exposure, not just visual artists and designers, but models also”, said Kedar Clarke, the event producer.

The night kept everyone captivated as there was so much for everyone to enjoy, from the cocktails, to the decadent dessert bar, the trunkshow vendors, the participating visual artist, and last but not least, the runway show. "We’re so excited to present such talent to The Bahamas in a way that will truly make us proud!”, said Clarke.

After a week since their pre-judging, the winning designers were announced on the night of the event. The “Harl Taylor Emerging Fashion Designer”  award went to Derrica Williamson, a crochet swimwear designer. Onlookers were in awe of the detail and intricacies of her work.  Sophie Taylor, a 12th grade student of Lyford Cay International School took the “Jackson Burnside Emerging Visual Artist” award for her work in photography.  Both award winners also received monetary grants and opportunities to foster sustainable businesses for their craft.

Mr. Clarke and Mrs. Pia Rolle of PTG Modeling Agency partnered to award two participating models with a one year contract with an international agency. The emerging model winners were Shane McPhee and Abigail Moss. Both now will represent the agency at the International Talent Showcase to be held in North America in 2012.

“The evening was a great success, because now The Bahamas can see first hand that we have talent that can rival designers and artist from all around the world. I am so grateful for all those that assisted us in making this a reality, especially Mrs. Pam Burnside who did her best to make sure that we pulled it off smoothly”, said Clarke. Other participants in the event included fashion designers: Tuesday White, Vincina Sweeting, Alicia Seymour, Jasper Knowles, Sabrina Sturrup, Carla Moleda and Visual Artist; Bernard Petit, Felicity Carey, Mecko Gibson, Lowree Cartwright and Dejena Edouard.
