There are few things as attractive as a well dressed man. However many men get tripped up when it comes to fashion. New season trends, mixing and matching colors and prints and expressing their personality through fashion becomes a major challenge.

However, with the opening of United Colors of Benetton Men, pulling together a dapper outfit just got easier. Located next to BTC on Bay Street, the fashion chain with a strong Italian character launched its Men's store locally on September 19, 2011.

I rounded up my best male model and fashion enthusiast Aneka Stewart, Manager of United Colors of Benetton Men, to show you some of the hottest layered looks for men this Fall.

Look 1 - A day at the office
Striped Button Down - $74
Eggplant V-neck Cardigan - $59
Necktie - $68
Herringbone Trousers - $104
Shoes (Monk Strap) - $178.00

Layering is the name of the game. Here’s how to score a home run with just a few key pieces. Ideal for a day at the office when a suit is not required, pairing a button down with trousers, a solid cardigan and a necktie is pulled together and office appropriate.

Take it one step further and make the look your own by playing with prints! We’ve paired a maroon and white vertical striped button down with a solid eggplant v-neck cardigan, a brown hounds-tooth necktie and brown and maroon herringbone trousers. Three very different prints that work together because we used colors from the same family that work well together.

Look 2 - Suit and tie
Grey Suit - $332
Argyle Sweater - $94
White Button Down - $59
Houndstooth Necktie - $68
Black Loafers - Model’s Own

A must have in any man’s closet is a well tailored suit. Last minute cocktail parties, weddings, funerals and just about every special occasion in between will provide no fashion anxiety when you have a good suit in your wardrobe arsenal. If you are purchasing your first suit, go for a neutral hue that will be appropriate for many occasions such as black, nave or grey.

Take the three piece suit concept and make it more youthful and less stuffy by layering a printed sweater over your button down. If you rarely wear a suit, opt for a Wool ensemble which can be worn comfortably year round. The thread count of your suit is also of great importance. Much like purchasing bed linens, the higher the thread count the finer the weave and more delicate the fabric. A higher thread count also means a heftier price tag. Generally, A thread count close to 180 is ideal for a comfortable suit that will stand the test of time.

Look 3 - Casual Chic
Striped Button Down - $59
Wool Two-Tone Cardigan - $159
Cotton Trousers - $72
Brown Leather Belt (not pictured) - $38
Shoes (Monk Strap) - $178.00

Once again a well tailored button down is at the heart of this layered look. A collection of button downs is essential because of their versatility. Whether you choose to dress them up with a suit or dress them down with simple khakis, they provide a great solid base upon which to build great classic looks.

Look 4 - Relaxed and comfortable
Jeans - $107
Plaid Shirt - $82

Distressed denim and funky plaid prints add a youthful flair to this basic casual look. Fit is foremost when it comes to making styles and patterns age appropriate and chic. Denim is a wardrobe workhorse, especially for men so having a few good pairs is essential. For casual looks, a lighter wash that is slightly distressed has a worn-in flair that makes them au courant. A slim fit that sits at or just below the waist is ideal.

Paired with a slim-fit button down with a large plaid print makes the look fun and relaxed.

Looking like those men in GQ is easier than you think! With a few well-made pieces and a little experimenting in front of the mirror you can pull together dapper looks in a cinch.
