Former Bahamas Governors General in Panel Discussion November 13

The Bahamas Historical Society will present a special opportunity to experience a Panel Discussion and Presentations by our Esteemed former Governors General in its regular “Free Talk” for November 2014.
The rare opportunity will take place on Thursday, November 13, at the Bahamas Historical Society & Museum at #28 Shirley Street and Elizabeth Avenue, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Presenting “A Governor General’s View from Mount Fitzwilliam,” in this first-time-ever event, will be Their Excellencies: Sir Orville Turnquest, Dame Ivy Dumont, the Hon. Arthur D. Hanna, and Sir Arthur Foulkes.
As described by the Historical Society, the former Governors General will “speak of their individual experiences, give an extraordinary insight into their responsibilities and duties to The Crown and to The Bahamas, and tell of the authority vested in that Office.”
Sir Arthur will first give an overview of the duties of a Governor General, then each of the former Governors General will speak for 10 minutes. A ‘questions & answers’ session will follow.
The public is invited, and the event is free of charge.
Parking is available at the CIBC First Caribbean Bank Shirley Street Branch parking lot (enter through Shirley Street entrance), and also at Graham Thompson parking lot at Shirley Street and Victoria Avenue (opposite Princess Margaret Hospital).
The Bahamas Historical Society now celebrates its 55th year and is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays (closed on weekends and Bahamian holidays). Admission is free.
The Society holds monthly talks, publishes an annual journal, and encourages membership. It is a non-profit cultural and educational organization dedicated to stimulating interest in Bahamian history and in the conservation of that history.
The Bahamas Historical Society is the custodian of historical, anthropological and archaeological artifacts, spanning more than 500 years of Bahamian history from the Lucayans to Blackbeard; from Woodes Rogers, to Pompey (leader of a slave revolt), and to Sir Milo B. Butler, the first Bahamian Governor General in an independent Bahamas.
