RBC Royal Bank sponsors Bahamas International Film Festival for 11th consecutive year with focus on Filmmaking for Students

NASSAU, Bahamas – RBC Royal Bank is sponsoring the 2014 Bahamas
International Film Festival (BIFF) for the 11th consecutive year,
with an emphasis on BIFF’s educational initiatives. The 2014 Festival is scheduled
to take place in Nassau from December 4 to 9, 2014, followed by events in Harbour Island from December 9 to
14.

has been a sponsor of BIFF since its inception,” said Mr. Nathaniel Beneby,
Jr., Managing Director of RBC Royal Bank in The Bahamas, Cayman and Turks &
Caicos. “We are pleased to support BIFF’s mission in raising awareness of the
film industry, which is very important to our local economy. It also gives young Bahamians access to a
wide range of independent cinema from
around the world.”
RBC’s
involvement in the 2014 Festival includes sponsoring the 2014 Youth Film Workshop. Through this program – also known
as “Filmmaking in a Day” – BIFF took professionals into the schools and
introduced our students to the art of filmmaking. The program included:

Lectures
on the history and art of filmmaking

Considerations
when selecting a theme for a movie
·
Script
writing
·
Casting
and character selection
·
Shooting
a film and elements of cinematography
·
Film
editing and presentation
Schools involved in the
programme included: H.O. Nash Junior High School and C.R. Walker Secondary
School, New Providence; William’s Town Primary School, Exuma; Harbour Island
All Age School, Eleuthera; and Emma Cooper Primary School, Governor’s Harbour,
Eleuthera.
“This programme was truly a one-of-a-kind experience
for students at these schools, said Mr. Beneby. “At

skills and talents of our youth. By inspiring students to get engaged with the
arts, we are building the vitality of our communities for future generations.”
