A recent press conference of BIFF sponsors. (L-R) Leslie Vanderpool, Founder & Executive Director Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF): Deborah Zonicle, Market Manager, Products, Marketing & Channels, Bahamas, Cayman and Turks & Caicos Islands.

NASSAU, Bahamas  – RBC Royal Bank is sponsoring the 2014 Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) for the 11th consecutive year, with an emphasis on BIFF’s educational initiatives. The 2014 Festival is scheduled to take place in Nassau from December 4 to 9, 2014, followed by events in Harbour Island from December 9 to 14.

“RBC has been a sponsor of BIFF since its inception,” said Mr. Nathaniel Beneby, Jr., Managing Director of RBC Royal Bank in The Bahamas, Cayman and Turks & Caicos. “We are pleased to support BIFF’s mission in raising awareness of the film industry, which is very important to our local economy. It also gives young Bahamians access to a wide range of independent cinema from around the world.”

RBC’s involvement in the 2014 Festival includes sponsoring the 2014 Youth Film Workshop. Through this program – also known as “Filmmaking in a Day” – BIFF took professionals into the schools and introduced our students to the art of filmmaking. The program included:

· Lectures on the history and art of filmmaking

· Considerations when selecting a theme for a movie

· Script writing

· Casting and character selection

· Shooting a film and elements of cinematography

· Film editing and presentation

Schools involved in the programme included: H.O. Nash Junior High School and C.R. Walker Secondary School, New Providence; William’s Town Primary School, Exuma; Harbour Island All Age School, Eleuthera; and Emma Cooper Primary School, Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera.

“This programme was truly a one-of-a-kind experience for students at these schools, said Mr. Beneby.  “At RBC, we have a keen interest in developing the skills and talents of our youth. By inspiring students to get engaged with the arts, we are building the vitality of our communities for future generations.”

“I want to thank RBC for its generous and ongoing sponsorship of BIFF,” said Ms. Leslie Vanderpool, founder and executive director of BIFF. “Since its founding, Bahamas International Film Festival has developed into a prestigious and well-respected event throughout The Bahamas and around the world. Without support of sponsors like RBC, this Film Festival would not be possible.”
