Nassau, Bahamas - Attaining its 10th year of successful angling for charity, The Harbourside Marine – Bahamas Rotary Tuna Classic expands its reach to include Abaco and South Eleuthera for June 11-12, 2011. Registration has begun.

Each year in May and June as the sea warms up and the prized pelagic fish migrate though our pristine blue waters, many Bahamians and a few visiting sport fisherman take part in a series of locally based and sponsored fishing tournaments. These tournaments are not for the light hearted novice anglers and stiff competition is in order on every fishing day. The culmination of this local fishing tournament season is The Harbourside Marine-Bahamas Rotary Tuna Classic held in mid-June. This sport fishing event consistently produces trophy sized yellow fin tuna, wahoo and dolphin while raising tens of thousands of dollars for Rotary Clubs in The Bahamas - supporting and funding a number of local charity efforts. Good fishing, good times, good competition for a good cause. This year we celebrate our 10th year with the continued support from our other major event sponsors - Societe Generale SG, Sun Tee, Green Parrot, Schooner Bay, Bahamas Wholesalers Association, Outdoor World and Bahamas Ferries.

In previous years there have been 12-18 fishing teams competing with wining tuna ranging in the 70 - 105 pound category. The 2010 wining tuna weighed 71.50 pounds - caught on Nassau based boat "Sweet P" owned by Scott Farrington of Sun-Tee - a major tournament sponsor. Top Lady Angler in 2010 was Tricia Gibbons from boat ”Kingfish”with a 68.8 pound tuna. In 2009 and 2008 the winning tunas weighed 80 and 92 pounds respectively. There are categories for largest Dolphin and Wahoo, as well as the Grand Slam, a Lady Angler and Junior Angler category. No billfish permitted.

In 2011, the tournament has grown to include two additional weigh-in stations, allowing for anglers to expand their range and to include more teams from outside of Nassau. In past years weigh-in locations were limited to Nassau and Spanish Wells. In 2011 however, there will be stations located at Little Harbour, Abaco and Cape Eleuthera, South Eleuthera. With the officiating help and support of Rotary Clubs in both Abaco and Eleuthera this is now possible. All four stations will be open from 6pm-8pm on June 11"‘ and 12th, 2011.

The winning fish for 2011 will be announced at the awards dinner -to be held at Green Parrot- Harbourside in Nassau on Saturday 18"‘June at 7pm. A fun event for the whole family with live music, food, a raffle, and games for the kids.

Entry fee (for 6 anglers) is $1000 and includes a number of giveaways for teams and great prizes for winners - all donated by charter sponsor Harbourside Marine. Any team who registers a Junior Angler (under 16 yrs old) receives a $200 discount in the entry fee.
