The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

District 7020 is home of some of the world's most diverse and vibrant Rotary with over 2,500 Rotarians in 84 Clubs, including two e-clubs, on 16 islands in 10 Counties (Anguilla, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Maarten, St. Martin/St. Barths, Turks and Caicos Islands, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla) across the English, French and Dutch speaking Northern Caribbean. In addition we have 46 Rotaract Clubs and many Interact and EarlyAct all delivering tremendous service to our communities.

The District Governor visits each of these clubs during his year in office.

Our District Governor this year is from the Bahamas. Mr. Stubbs is General Manager of IBM Bahamas Limited, a subsidiary of IBM International. He also currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Doctors Hospital Health Systems, Vice Chairman of the Salvation Army Bahamas Advisory Board, and Treasurer of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas.

Mr. Stubbs’ contributions to the growth and development of The Bahamas are numerous. He has served as Chairman of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Chairman of Junior Achievement Bahamas, President of the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce, President of the Scout Association of The Bahamas, and has served on a variety of civic and government organizations including the National Insurance Board.

He has served in Rotary as District Disaster Relief Chair at Rotary International District 7020 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

In 1997 Mr. Stubbs was honored by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas when he became a Member of the British Empire. He is married and has two sons.

The Rotary Club of Abaco is celebrating 44 years of service to the island. It is known for projects which have touch persons of all ages and backgrounds through-out the island, including the Christmas parcel for the needy, donating to volunteer fire departments, sponsoring the Annual Rotary Speech Contest, Health Clinics, blood drives, providing computors, books and supplies to schools, to name a few.

Funds raised from this evening’s dinner will support the Rotary Foundation and Rotary’s Polio Plus Campaign. At the 1917 convention, outgoing RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. In 1929, the Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into Easter Seals. When Rotary founder Paul Harris died in 1947, contributions began pouring in to Rotary International, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was created to build the Foundation. 100% of the funds donated to the Foundation go towards grants for Rotary projects around the world. Since the first donation of $26.50 in 1917, the Foundation has received contributions totaling more than $1 billion.

Rotary, along with our partners, has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. We are close to eradicating polio, but we need your help. Whether you have a few minutes or a few hours, here are some ways to make a global impact and protect children against polio forever. Rotarians have helped immunize more than 2 billion children against polio in 122 countries. For as little as $0.60, a child can be protected against this crippling disease for life.
