Freeport, Grand Bahama - On Saturday, April 9th, 2011, members of the Rotaract Club of Freeport took time out to spend some time with the oft-forgotten residents of the Old Folks’ Home (Frobisher Drive). Members had conversations with some of the residents, as well as read one or two of their favorite passages, and song a few hymns for them. We had the opportunity to meet with some of the eldest residents of this island in the form of a man named Felix (his last name escapes me), who recently celebrated his 99th birthday, and Mrs. Harriet Zonicle who will be 101 years old this year. Felix loves to sing, and doesn’t let his lack of eyesight stop his joy, and Mrs. Zonicle, who is also blind, still retains her wits, and is quick to remind you if you forget!
While the purpose of this visit was to give back, members of the Rotaract Club of Freeport couldn’t help but to be touched as well, by these encounters with the residents of the Old Folks’ Home.
