Freeport, Grand Bahama - One of Grand Bahama’s favorite events, the annual vintage-Havana themed “Cigar Nights” will be presented Saturday evening, May 17, 2014 at the Pelican Bay Hotel Canal House at 7pm with lots of fun and entertainment. Rotary Club of GB Sunrise President-elect, James Sarles, shares his enthusiasm for the annual fundraising event that supports the Columbus House Big Brother/Big Sister Youth Mentoring programme, “We have made great strides with these teens over the last ten years. The program focuses on boys and girls aged 14-17, who have been placed in Columbus House by Department of Social Services to protect them from abusive and unacceptable living environments."

"The main goal of the Rotary Program is to provide positive adult role models and opportunities for healthy interaction outside their immediate environment. Weekly outings and activities give them a brighter view of what’s possible in life and opportunities for personal growth. The program has seen very positive results. It is changing lives. The program is primarily funded by Rotary Club of GB Sunrise’s Cigar Nights event and we hope everyone will come out for a great evening and to help the teens at Columbus House,” said Sarles.

Lots of music and entertainment is planned for the event, including a Latin Band featuring Steve Persaud, Larry Lewis, Clarence Green, and Marina Gottlieb Sarles. Unkle Sam DJ will also be on hand spinning tunes amidst the other fun, which will include a demonstration of authentic Cuban Cigar Rolling from Greycliff Restaurant in Nassau, a VIP Rum Tasting, Salsa Dancing Girls, a Chinese Auction (with top prizes like an iPhone 4S, iPad, Beats headphone, Keurig Coffee Make, iPods, Nanos, and more), as well as a special performance by the Columbus House Latin Band.

This event brings the whole Grand Bahama community together (with many wearing their Fedora vintage-Havana-style hats!) and also benefits Rotary Club of GB Sunrise’s Safe Swim, Cats Eyes, and other community outreach efforts as well as the Columbus House Big Brother / Big Sister Youth Mentoring.

Tickets are $50 and are available at the door or via the businesses of these Rotary Members: BWA, JS Johnson Insurance, Coldwell Banker James Sarles Realty, Waugh Construction, Bahamas Industrial Technologies, GBPA, Container Port, AGT Security, OBS Marine, Tropical Shipping, Cates & Co., Chappies Drug Store, Sweet Affairs, Cable Bahamas, Taino Beach Resort, Future Properties, Benchmark Consulting Services.
