Rotary is a humanitarian organization, made up of business professionals who are dedicated to “Service Above Self.” There are 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide and just over 400 in The Bahamas, comprising of 9 clubs, (does not include Grand Bahama) who serve in New Providence (6 clubs), and 1 each in Abaco, Eleuthera and Cat Island. The Bahamas is part of District 7020, which comprises (10) Caribbean countries on (16) islands. The Bahamas is proud to have had (6) District Governors - Keith Duncombe, Barry Rassin (who is also a Past Director of Rotary International), John Robertson, Eddie Bostwick, and Richard McCombe.
Over the years, Rotary Bahamas has held the annual Mock United Nations (MUNS), purchased a Bloodmobile, contributed to a Relief Emergency Water Supply Plant in Grand Bahama, donated Simulators to the COB Nursing School, over 1,000 wheelchairs; launched the Breathe Easy Campaign, participated in the Hands Across The Bahamas event, Incorporated the Baby Think it Over (Teen pregnancy education program in high schools), worked with Project READ, built the Cheshire Home and the Salvation Army Building on Mackey Street. Also significant is the operation of 4 Rotaract Clubs (ages 18-30) and numerous Interact Clubs (age 12-18 in high schools). We also work with the police, educators and medical personnel to instill the objects of Rotary in the lives of Bahamians nationwide.
The theme for Rotary this year is to “Reach within to Embrace Humanity.”
