Eleuthera, The Bahamas
-
The Rotaract Club of Eleuthera in sponsorship with the Rotary Club of Eleuthera
will host a charity event on Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Tarpum
Bay Arts and Cultural Center in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera. Proceeds from the event
will support hurricane relief efforts in Eleuthera, projects for children with
special needs and supplies for the Tarpum Bay Library. Tickets are a $30
donation which include hors d'oeuvres, a keynote address from 7020 District
Governor Guy D. Theodore, and live entertainment.
“I hope
that people will show support for this event and the positive efforts of the
young people in our community. This club is very energetic and they are excited
to give back,” said Rotary Club of Eleuthera President Ian Carey.
This
event officially recognizes the hard work and dedication of
young professionals age 18 through 30 who
are addressing community needs and promoting international understanding
through friendship and service. Established by the Rotary Club of Eleuthera in
November 2010 and chartered in February 2011, members called Rotaractors join a
network of 7,300 Rotary sponsored clubs with more than 150,000 members in over
150 countries.
“Rotaract
is the only club on the entire island where young persons can connect in
fellowship, develop leadership skills, and volunteer with service projects that
impact our island. I think the international aspect is awesome because we’ve
had members from Sonoma State University in California work with us on
community service projects.” said Club President Kalin Griffin.
Last
weekend Rotaractors, Rotarians and staff from the Cape Eleuthera Island School
volunteered in a clean-up campaign in the settlement of James Cistern which
suffered severe damage after Hurricane Irene.
“Rotaract
has a unique opportunity to capture the next generation of talented young
people in Eleuthera and provide them with a venue to socialize and give them a
reason to stay on a family island,” said Shaun Ingraham Immediate Past
President of Rotary Club of Eleuthera.
The
2011-12 members of the Rotaract Club of Eleuthera are President Kalin Griffin;
Vice-President, Chekera Hamilton; Treasurer Marvin Brown; Sergeant at Arms
