Nassau, Bahamas - Enclosed are are remarks given by Philip "Brave" Davis on the evening of January 27th to the Progressive Liberal Party, Elizabeth Constituency Bye-Election Rally.

PLP!

Tonight it feels good to be in Elizabeth! And it feels even better to be PLP!

Party Leader, parliamentary colleagues, the wonderful people of Elizabeth, PLPs and Bahamians far and wide, I bring you greetings from the fine people of Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador!

Elizabeth, we have come to join you tonight in telling Hubert Ingraham and the FNM that Elizabeth is a part of our PLP FAMILY!  We in the PLP are family…and family sticks together!

And stick together we must!  United we stand!  Together as a united force we can make a difference!

We need Change the direction our country is going and we need it now!  Elizabeth its time to turn that wheel for Change!

Tonight I am convinced that the future of the PLP is bright!  The future of the Bahamas is bright!  Indeed, the future is now!  That future begins with Ryan Pinder and the PLP! To achieve that bright future – that I am convinced of we need change the direction our country is headed!

Hubert Ingraham, the Free National Movement and its operatives are now in full swing!

The rumors have started!  The lies have begun!  The spin doctors are in full gear!  The false promises are being thrown out!  And the false prophets are all around the place trying to swing you the good people of Elizabeth!

But I have news for them!  We have a good and solid candidate in Ryan Pinder!

Desperation has begun to set in because you know and now they know that Elizabeth is ready for Ryan!  I hear they telling Duane “Duane things ain’t the same, We trying Ryan!!” Elizabeth is ready for real representation!  Elizabeth is motivated and ready to elect Leo Ryan Pinder as the next Member of Parliament for the Elizabeth constituency.

It is a new day for Elizabeth. Your partnership with Ryan Pinder and the PLP will start a new chapter for this community.

Elizabeth the PLP has heard your cry!  We know that you are tired of this uncaring and heartless Government! You have heard enough! You have seen enough of the foolishness!  You have suffered far too much and it is clear that enough is enough!

The FNM did not expect the PLP machine of Per and Ryan Pinder to be rolling at full blast! They thought he would come in Elizabeth with empty promises! They thought they could fool the people of Elizabeth! They took you for granted! And now they are now desperate!

They are using every trick in the book.  They are even trying to create some new ones. This time they have hit a new low!  Mr. Ingraham is stuck in old time politics. Mr. Ingraham has become a threat to democracy in The Bahamas!

Through URCA he has done all in his power to silence any opposition to his Government!  He can’t stand to hear our message of hope and change. The new political broadcasting rules are a slap in the face to the Bahamian people. In this day and time, how can any progressive Government limit a political party to four or six radio ads per day?

Why must certain recordings be in the voice of the candidate? Why can’t a political rally be broadcasted live on the radio? I thought this was a democracy!  This is still The Bahamas isn’t it? And this is 2010 isn’t it!!

Isn’t freedom of speech a constitutional right? How can a man brag about opening the airwaves on the one hand and then silence the voice of political opposition on the other? He speaks out of two sides of his mouth. He is hell bent on making the rules to suit him.

Hubert Alexander Ingraham, if you do not want to hear the message of the PLP, turn your radio off!

Please Sir, do not deny the thousands of Bahamians who want to hear our message!  There are thousands who for whatever reason are unable to attend political rallies. Where is the fairness in that?
Don’t deny those who want to hear our vision!  Don’t deny those who want to know that you are on your way out.  I guess Sir, the truth hurts!

Mr. Ingraham, you may be the Prime Minister but please remember that the Bahamas belongs to all of us!

Democracy is under attack!  Ask Oswald Brown, former Freeport News Editor and Nassau Guardian columnist.  Mr. Brown was on the radio just today telling of how he was unceremoniously fired for the views expressed in his opinion column of a few days ago.

He was critical of Hubert Ingraham.  He said that this by-election is a referendum on the FNM Government!  And so according to Mr. Brown, for expressing his opinion, he had to go – and go now!

When Oswald Brown was praising Hubert Ingraham he was the best thing in town!  But God forbid, he be critical of the Prime Minister and he’s gone.  This cannot be!  Oswald Brown is a Bahamian.  He has been victimized by the Government that they want us to trust.  No Bahamian should be afraid to criticize the Government or the Prime Minister!

Mr. Brown’s voice has been silenced!  Where is our country heading?  Mr. Ingraham’s ego is not more important than the rights of the Bahamian people.

Hubert Ingraham is obviously on a mission to control our courts, control our newspapers and media and to control every public institution.  We must put a stop to this.  Elizabeth let Hubert Ingraham and Dr. Sands know that enough is enough.

The last time, I addressed you I told you this Government is confused. They are clueless.  They have no sense of direction!  Just look at the headlines in today’s newspapers.  The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.  The Prime Minister is saying one thing.  The Deputy Prime Minister is saying another thing!  And the Minister of Immigration is saying and doing something totally different.  Yet they have the nerve to call that strong leadership.

Hubert Ingraham and the FNM are taking our country in the wrong direction.

Tonight we in the PLP are proud to show a new direction for our country.  We are proud to celebrate the future. We are focused on a new style of politics.  We are concerned about solutions. We are concerned about a better Bahamas.
We won’t solve our problems, like rising crime and the breakdown of family values and community, until we create good-paying jobs for all Bahamians.
When elected, Ryan Pinder will make job creation his #1 priority.  He has plans to attract light industry to the country and to help Bahamians create their own businesses.

Now more than ever the Bahamas needs experts like Ryan Pinder!

PLPs, we are ready to turn the spotlight on the next generation of leaders.  It is for these reasons that we stand 100 percent behind our candidate, Ryan Pinder!

He is indeed the right man!  He is in the right place and this is the right time!

Why is Ryan Pinder the right man?  Ryan Pinder is smart.  He is young.  He is committed to community building and he cares about Elizabeth. He represents a new politics. He represents a new Bahamas. He brings the expertise that we need in Parliament!

Why is Ryan Pinder in the right place?  Ryan Pinder knows Elizabeth and Elizabeth knows Ryan Pinder. Elizabeth and Ryan Pinder are Family!!

Why is this the right time?  This is the right time because we need to send a message to Hubert Ingraham and the FNM that enough is enough!

Democracy is under attack!  We are heading down a slippery slope.  We need to turn our country around, NOW!

We need to once more become where:

• A community raised a child

• A country where we are not afraid to drive home at nights.
• A country where we are not prisoners in our own home.

• A country where the nations grade average is NOT a D!

• A country where we are our brother’s keepers.

• A country where our children join boys scouts, girls guides, pathfinders, juniors achievers.

A country where opportunities are created for all Bahamians!

Enough is ENOUGH!

BE BRAVE ELIZABETH! I SAY BE BRAVE!!!!!!!

Elizabeth, now is your time to give Ryan Pinder a voice!

We need Ryan Pinder in Parliament!

BE BRAVE ELIZABETH Tell them, when they knock at our doors, WE TRYIN RYAN!

PLP…
PLP…
PLP…
Thank you and God Bless you!
