Remarks by PLP Deputy Leader Philip Brave Davis
North Eleuthera PLP Command Centre Opening
Saturday 4th February, 2012
Lower Bogue North Eleuthera, Bahamas

Good Evening North Eleuthera!

Mr. Party Leader….

To the Next Member of Parliament and Our PLP candidate for North Eleuthera – Clay Sweeting.

Team North Eleuthera….Are you ready Now!

We are at the gate…and time is short…

I have come to reassure you that the PLP, led by Perry Gladstone Christie, will win the upcoming general election, and Clay Sweeting is among the cadre of dynamic young candidates we are depending on to help us return good governance to The Bahamas.

But we need all hands on deck to make this happen, North Eleuthera, and we know that you will not let us down. We need Clay Sweeting as a winning member of our team.

You know and I know that the current FNM government does not deserve to be reelected. Indeed, Prime Minister Hubert  “Papa” Ingraham has resorted to telling outright lies in a brazen attempt to cover up for the fact that his government has been a total failure, and is responsible for the poor state of this country’s economy and the pain and suffering that far too many Bahamians have had to endure over the last four-plus years.

We must let the FNM know in no uncertain terms that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

You here in North Eleuthera can help us send that message loud and clear to Ingraham and his hand-picked team of candidates by electing Clay Sweeting as your next MP.

There is no question Papa is showing signs of a desperate man on the brink of losing power. There are clear indications he is now losing his cool. They tell me Papa is moving through North Abaco like a first time MP: kissing babies and shaking hands because the news is not good for him.

He is getting so desperate these days he now says he Believes in Bahamians. All along he’s been saying, “Bahamians need not apply”, but with just a few weeks to go before the election he’s singing a different tune!

Papa knows that the FNM ship HAS GONE AGROUND on a rocky reef of CORRUPTION. That’s one of the reasons why Deputy Prime Minister Brent Symonette decided to abandon his ambition to one day become Prime Minister and is not seeking reelection.

I’m sure you have heard about the scandalous conflict of interest he has been accused of in connection with the disastrous road project in New Providence.

Then there’s Earl Deveaux, another Cabinet Minister, who Papa would have us believe decided to jump the FNM wrecked ship. I am sure you know about the scandal involving this Minister and the Aga Khan with regard to that dredging project in Exuma. Papa would have us believe that they decided to jump ship. We all know that’s a LIE! The truth is that they are not running because of blatant corruption in the FNM.

There’s another cabinet minister who did not jump ship, but was actually pushed overboard.

You have heard how Papa brutally fired his Housing Minister Kenneth Russell, whose departing shot at Ingraham was to call him a TYRANT and DICTATOR.

Yes, North Eleuthera, the FNM ship has gone aground and is falling apart. I know that you here in North Eleuthera will not be fooled by Papa’s lies and trickery; neither will the vast majority of Bahamian voters throughout our beloved country

They claim to have DELIEVERD, but the truth is they have delivered nearly five years of neglect and abandonment of the people in communities throughout this country, and without question here in North Eleuthera.

After all the complaints about your ongoing electricity problems, lack of investment opportunities and job woes, they gat the nerve to come and beg for votes?

Tell them ENOUGH is ENOUGH. Tell them that Clay Sweeting will see to it that all these problems are addressed when the takes over as the next government of The Bahamas.

Nowadays Papa is flying around with his new band of “YES MEN and WOMEN” saying they giving out jobs for six months.

Here’s some good advice from a seasoned lawyer: TAKE THE JOB, TAKE THE MONEY AND VOTE PLP!

We don’t need a Prime Minister who will only work at election time. We need a Prime Minister who will work for Bahamians all the time.

We know they are afraid to lose power. They’re scrambling now…because Bahamians are ready for a new direction.

North Eleuthera: it is time to register. Do it first thing Monday morning if you haven't already.

Gather your loved ones and take them to local commissioner’s office and get them ready.

Take your sons and daughters now, because time is short.

Everywhere you turn people are turning to the PLP. Just take a look at the thousands who gathered in Grand Bahama last Friday night.

Grand Bahama I can report to is PLP COUNTRY!!!

They are sick and tired of how crime, unemployment and the bad economy were all poorly managed by the FNM.

These will be the hallmark of the Failed Outgoing FNM Government.

Hubert Ingraham’s final 5 years in office have proved he and his FNM do not believe in Bahamians!

You trusted them and they abused your trust.

All across the Bahamas there are pages and pages of foreclosures of homes  in the newspapers. The mortgage crisis has gathered not one response from the outgoing FNM government.

Hundreds upon hundreds are losing their home. You all know how important having a home is and you can imagine how difficult it must be to lose it!

This is the position that far too man Bahamian families find themselves in today.

On the 26th of January alone, a major institution in the Bahamas listed 469 properties for sale. Homes foreclosed and the FNM Government spoke not a word.

It is true that the global economic crisis hurt The Bahamas, but the FNM’s mismanagement and short-sighted policies made it so much worse.

They raised taxes across the board when other governments were reducing tax burdens to help people through tough times.

So don't buy their false promises now; don't listen to their propaganda and their distortions of what is really reality.

They borrowed millions to do the roadwork on New Providence, but gave too many of those jobs to foreigners and while the poorly planned roadwork caused many businesses to suffer and some to close down.

That is what is happening in Nassau as we speak!

Nothing was done to stimulate our economy or reduce our high unemployment rate! I know and I am sure you all know of persons who have been put out of work, victims of crime, lost their homes. I know many of them personally, I hear their stories day after day and it saddens me to no end. It also makes me even more determined to bring help and hope to our people and that is our commitment to you!

But now, it's election time they are coming North Eleuthera with a six months job plan?

I will say it again: TAKE THE JOB, TAKE THE MONEY AND VOTE PLP!

The PLP will be the Next Government and we believe in putting Bahamians First!

We are ready to turn the corner and bring new opportunities to you in this community.

When elected, a PLP government will deliver a Renewed Agriculture Focus – we shall present an aggressive policy to develop this industry.

With special focus on technology and innovation, these projects will be aimed at increasing the production, quality and marketability of locally grown goods.

We commit to you North Eleuthera that we will begin investing in local products; expanding packinghouses and canneries so that we can develop full-circle economies right here on this island.

We will bring the strength of the Government to police our fishing industry.

Your next PLP government shall allow local fishermen to expand into deep sea harvesting of prized tuna and snapper products.

By granting these deep sea licenses to you, we believe this new focus will open the well fields of opportunity for trade on the world stage for our people; generating million of dollars into the economy while at the same time delivering employment for canning factories, and technical support staff for these production houses.

In short providing long-term, sustainable jobs for our people right here in North Eleuthera.

We are READY NORTH ELEUTHERA, and this is why our full leadership team is here to tell you we want Clay Sweeting and Damian Gomez as we make life better for Bahamians.

Our enviable record by those opposite indeed cannot be matched. The PLP decreased taxes the last time in office and for you North Eleuthera we will do that AGAIN!

Your PLP Government created 22,000 new jobs for young Bahamians in new sectors and when we are elected North Eleuthera we will do that AGAIN!

Christie’s PLP outpaced growth in the US by the end of our last term; more money was in the treasury, more new homes were built, more children received a college education, more jobs were created; yes we did that before and we will do that AGAIN!

We know how to govern and are ready to govern on day one!

North Eleuthera: elections are about the future.

Elections are about restoring the dreams and aspirations of a people.

It is about building communities and restoring that which is possible.

The Bahamas needs you North Eleuthera, to join that team that will form the next government led by Perry Gladstone Christie.

Our country needs you because as we all can see The Bahamas is headed in the wrong direction.

And you must soon decide that future.

We say give us CLAY SWEETING, the next youngest member of Parliament, who will help us to shape that future.

As your MP, Clay will be working with the next PLP government to implement smart, innovative policies.

We’re going to invest in people. And we are ready to begin it on day one.

Aren’t you ready for a government that believes in Bahamians?

Aren’t you ready for a government that will put Bahamians first?

Are you ready, North Eleuthera.

Come with us as we set a course to Put Bahamians Back to Work!

Come with us as we point young Bahamians into an era of prosperity and growth!

Come with us as we build our nation and restore Opportunity to the thousands of our countrymen and women.

Come with us as we restore JOB OPPORTUNITIES back into this economy and new business opportunities for all our people.

Come with us, and send CLAY SWEETING into the Parliament!

Come with us! BELIEVE in the Bahamas as we in the PLP believe in you!

PLP….PLP…..PLP

Thank You, North Eleuthera, and God Bless …
