Freeport, Bahamas – The Deputy Leader of the Free National Movement spent the weekend in Freeport meeting FNM delegates, attending the 5th Annual Chamber awards and greeting students at a local basketball tournament.

The Long Island MP traveled to Freeport on Friday to meet with her team in Grand Bahama as she promotes her run for Leader of the FNM party. “I’m pleased to be in Freeport, many people know the importance of Grand Bahama in our party and in The Bahamas generally” said Butler-Turner. “I’ve come to talk to my fellow FNM’s and attend some events I’ve been invited too and listen to local constituents about their issues and where they see The Bahamas.”

Butler-Turner was overwhelmed with her reception throughout the island and pleased to hear the overwhelming support she had in Grand Bahama not just local FNMs but Grand Bahamians in general. “In arriving we paid a visit to the Port Lucaya Marketplace and I talked to vendors about their needs and views on current issues that effect them – like my fellow MP’s we are all concerned about Grand Bahama and would like to see the island, be the success the story it should be.”

While on the island the Deputy Leader was invited to attend the GB Secondary School Association Coca-Cola Power Aid Tip Off Classic along with former Marco city candidate Norris Bain, Principal of Tabernacle High School.  While there she spoke to the players and parents and listened to their concerns and her ideas about youth development.

From there the MP attended the 5th Annual GB Chamber Awards held at the Regency Theatre. “It was an wonderful evening to celebrate the hard work and entrepreneurship here in Grand Bahama. I was also honoured to have a few moments with Sir Jack Hayward and Sarah St. George of the GBPA.” During the ceremony Mrs. Butler–Turner was invited to co-present the lifetime achievement award along with her parliamentary colleague Minister Michael Darville and his wife.

“I was very honoured that Michael included me tonight,” she noted. “He is ever the gentleman and it made my evening to be able to congratulate winners like Peter Kohl for his 48 years of contribution to the hospitality industry.”

Butler –Tuner now heads back to the capital to resume her on-going campaign for the leadership run in her party but hopes to return before her party’s convention.
